Hello! I would love the opportunity to work with your child. I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Missouri in Columbia…Go Tigers! I have experience as both an Elementary classroom teacher (Second Grade) and a reading tutor for small groups of students (Second-Sixth Grade). I am a kind, compassionate and excited teacher with fresh ideas to help your student. I have many methods that not only engage children but also make learning fun! Teaching reading is my passion and I focused my Master’s research on engagement in reading. I have created strategies to help students better comprehend the text they are reading as well as apply what they have learned to the world around them. I enjoy doing author studies, poetry reads and researching the authors' lives so the students make deeper connections. I focus on fluency, phonics and vocabulary as much as comprehension, because with all of those pieces the student is on the road to success. Reading is such an important key to success and I would be happy to help your student on their journey to becoming an enthusiastic reader. I believe constant and open communication with parents is vital to student success, so daily or weekly check-ins would be something I would be glad to do if you so please. I am excited to begin working with your child and I thank you for the opportunity! I know we will be a great team and help your student reach their personal academic goals. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
