Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I attended a Christian private school, which required 24 hours of college-level Bible classes. Additionally, I have taught Sunday School classes for adults and teens. One of my scholarly interests is biblical hermeneutics. I also have a working knowledge of New Testament Greek.

Classics

I have had extensive university coursework in the Classics, in addition to teaching them utilizing the Socratic Method, also at the university level.

I am also able to read and translate Greek, including the Attic and the Koine dialects; further, I am comfortable reading and translating Latin, especially poetry, including the epic mode.

I have taught Dante, Homer, Ovid, Aeschylus, Shakespeare, Quixote, and many later works designated as classical.

College Counseling

I have been tutoring students in essay-writing for WyzAnt for two years. I hold the BA, MA, and MFA in English, and I have taught essay-writing at the university level at three separate universities. I have also taught essay-writing to students who are preparing to write essays for college admissions.

Logic

I am able to teach the discipline of logic for two reasons: first, I have completed several classes in philosophy with a focus on logical processes. Second, my experience teaching and evaluating argumentation in writing is strong and varied. Last, my primary teaching method evolves from an aporetic style.

Study Skills

As an instructor of English, I have practiced reading, writing, and reasoning skills with students. Much of the time part of teaching a student to write clearly and with understanding requires a great amount of critical thinking ability; consequently, I have become experienced in devising exercises that call on students to dissect ideas and subjects in order to learn how to create their own ideas and subjects.
