In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I attended a Christian private school, which required 24 hours of college-level Bible classes. Additionally, I have taught Sunday School classes for adults and teens. One of my scholarly interests is biblical hermeneutics. I also have a working knowledge of New Testament Greek.
I have had extensive university coursework in the Classics, in addition to teaching them utilizing the Socratic Method, also at the university level.

As an instructor of English, I have practiced reading, writing, and reasoning skills with students. Much of the time part of teaching a student to write clearly and with understanding requires a great amount of critical thinking ability; consequently, I have become experienced in devising exercises that call on students to dissect ideas and subjects in order to learn how to create their own ideas and subjects.
