I am an Elementary teacher, Special Education teacher, and mother of 3. I have been teaching 3rd grade or Elementary Special Education since 2006. My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education. My Master's degree is in Special Education. I have worked with all types of students in many different settings, but have found my niche working especially with students and families on the Autism Spectrum. I can work with students or families of students with special needs to help them move towards grasping foundational academic skills or becoming functionally independent with life skills.
I enjoy helping students and families be able to catch up or fill gaps in their learning. I am well versed in different methods to help students be able to be able to complete tasks and learn how to do something that requires multiple steps. I am able to create visual aids that will help students be able to either commit to memory through repetition the steps necessary to work through an academic skill or functional skill process.
I have taught elementary math for the past 15 years and spent several years just teaching math. I can facilitate and hands on approach, even if we aren't in person.
I have taught elementary science for the past 15 years, and also grew up on a farm, so I have a unique background, and can usually relate science to a topic that students are particularly interested in.
I currently teach special needs and specialize in breaking down tasks into small manageable tasks. Each student is different, but once I figure out how each student learns best, I can provide insights and tips that can be applied to other areas for learning.
I look forward to having the chance to work with you and your student and would love the opportunity to help bridge a gap that makes learning something fun, and not something your student is trying to avoid.
