I have been a professional tutor for 4 years. I aim to establish and maintain long-term relationships with students and their families to increase confidence and to improve study habits and performance in elementary school, middle school, and college-preparatory courses and exams. My passion is to help students not only get good grades and pass their classes, but to learn the thought processes and confidence to help themselves to succeed ultimately on their own. My reward is that look on a student's face when it finally clicks for them!

Over the course of my experience I have worked with children with learning challenges, improved students’ skill and confidence in Math, taught high school students test strategies and reviewed content to prepare them for the ACT, taught a summer course in Latin reading enrichment, and am currently teaching a summer Algebra prep course. I tutored for 2 1/2 years with Tutor Doctor and then independently for 1 1/2+ years after the franchise dissolved. I have raised students ACT scores from 1-3 points overall, and up to 5 points on individual sections. I have improved students' grades in geometry and algebra, and increased a student's confidence and scores in 7th grade math. (When I started tutoring her she had melt-downs at almost every session. Now she has been getting B's and approaching her homework with a more positive attitude.) I also helped a student improve his study habits for Biology and raise his grade from failing to a B. I have also worked with an ADHD student to help him keep up in a college prep high school setting. As well as tutoring high school subjects, I also teach piano performance.

I grew up in a family of 4 children, and always wanted to be a teacher. I homeschooled until 10th grade, and then went to Barat Academy, during which time I was always glad to help my siblings and classmates with their studies, especially math. I received scores on the SAT in the top 99% (2230/2400), was a National Merit Scholar, and graduated with a 4.03/4.00 GPA. I also got first place in the Mid America Music Association Piano Competition (a five state competition) in 2009 and got 2nd place in the Missouri State MSHAA piano competition in 2011. I started classes at Saint Louis University, during which time I took, among other things, Calculus and 400-level classes on St. Augustine's Confessions, Cicero's De Naturam Deorum, and Caesar's Gallic Wars in Latin. In my free time I sing chant and polyphony in the St. Barnabas Choir and for Juventutem Saint Louis, translate Latin hymns, sew, crochet, and paint illuminated letters.

All of this helps me interact with you, determine your learning style, and cater my explanations to how you think; to both listen to you, and help you keep focused; and to encourage you to believe that you can do it, and then prove it to yourself. I decided I wanted to be a professional tutor to help other students achieve their best. I look forward to working with you!

Calculus was my favorite class in high school. I believe it is important to learn how math works and to understand the process of smaller, easier equations that go into solving larger more difficult problems. Many students' difficulty with math lies in the simple fact that they are taught formulas, and never understand why they work. I love the logical simplicity of mathematics, and enjoy helping students look at math in a new light.

I have taken Latin for 7 years including in college. I have read Caesar, Cicero, and Augustine in the original Latin, and studied manuscripts as well.

I have increased students’ ACT average scores from 1 to 3 points and up to 5 points on individual sections.
