I have been a professional tutor for 7 years, 2 1/2 years with Tutor Doctor and then independently for 5+ years after the franchise dissolved. I aim to establish and maintain long-term relationships with students and their families to increase confidence and to improve study habits and performance in elementary school, middle school, and college-preparatory courses and exams. My passion is to help students not only get good grades and pass their classes, but to learn the thought processes and confidence to help themselves to succeed on their own. My reward is that look on a student's face when it finally clicks for them!
Over the course of my experience I have:
- worked with children with learning challenges including ADHD, autism, and dyslexia
- increased high school students ACT composite scores by as much as 5 points and their section scores by as much as 7 points through teaching test strategies and reviewing concepts
- improved students' skill, confidence, and understanding in Math and English; they went from struggling to excelling
- helped failing students raise their grades in algebra, geometry, English, history, and biology
- taught Algebra 2 and middle school and high school Latin for 3 years at St. John Paul II Preparatory School in Saint Charles, MO
I grew up in a family of 4 children, and always wanted to be a teacher. I homeschooled until 10th grade, and then went to Barat Academy, during which time I was always glad to help my siblings and classmates with their studies, especially math. I received scores on the SAT in the top 99%, was a National Merit Scholar, and graduated with a 4.03/4.00 GPA. I also got first place in the Mid America Music Association Piano Competition (a five state competition) in 2009 and got 2nd place in the Missouri State MSHAA piano competition in 2011. I started classes at Saint Louis University, during which time I took, among other things, Calculus and 400-level classes on St. Augustine's Confessions, Cicero's De Naturam Deorum, and Caesar's Gallic Wars in Latin.
