I tutored throughout high school (in Texas and in St Louis) and college. I was a certified tutor in math and science through a student program at Missouri State called TRIO. While at Missouri State, I also worked at an alternative high school where I assisted in the classroom as well as taking students rock climbing at a local climbing gym. My Bachelors degree is in Biology with a minor in Math while my graduate work was a cross between biology/ecology and chemistry. After college, I headed West and did a bit of everything from wildland fire fighting to environmental education. For those that have high school aged kids, I can provide lots of information and help with finding internships in a variety of fields all over the country (which I highly recommend!). While out West I was the Environmental Education Coordinator for the Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest based in Carson City, NV where I developed programs for all ages and spent much of my time delivering these programs at the Mt Rose Ski Resort on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. After a few years out West I decided to go back to school and while in graduate school, I taught several sections of the laboratory for Environmental Science in addition to conducting my research in the area of ecotoxicology. When I was teaching at the University, I received excellent reviews from students and faculty. I have been certified to teach at Drury University in their Environmental Science program in the past and hope to start teaching again in the future.

Currently, I'm a stay at home mom (and educator!) for my 5 year old twins and foster child(ren). I am also active in a local chapter of the Missouri Master Naturalists which is a natural resource education and volunteer service program where I am the publicity chair and newsletter editor. I'd love the chance to send you my resume or transcripts and to discuss how I can help you or your student excel.

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is powerful program that can be used for anything from simple tables to complex analyses and graphical presentations. One of my current Excel workbooks contains growth data from my twins and automatically plots their height, weight and head circumferences on a growth chart for their gender (they were 3m premature so we kept pretty close track of their growth!). Let me help you with your Excel projects.

While in college I tutored through TRIO student support services. In the training for TRIO tutors, we covered topics such as study skills so we could not only provide instruction in the specific topic area but also assist with developing general study skills. Later while working at an alternative school for at-risk youth, these skills were further refined. The emphasis of the alternative school was on interpersonal skills, life skills and general study skills to equip students with necessary skills to allow them to function in a traditional school setting. My Bachelor's degree is in Biology with a minor in Math while my graduate work was a cross between biology/ecology and chemistry.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I obtained a minor in Math while in college and find algebra in particular to be a fun and useful set of tools for daily life. From simple questions such as how long it will take to get to a specific destination to comparing prices at the grocery store, algebra can be very useful. I assisted in the classroom at an alternative school and often helped students work through math problems and understanding basic concepts in the subject.

Biology,

Biology

My Bachelor of Science degree was in Biology with a focus on organismal biology (mammalogy, herpetology, ornithology, etc). My graduate degree was in Zoology while my research was focused on ecotoxicology. I have worked for the US Forest Service, US Bureau of Land Management, Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Student Conservation Association where I was able to apply land management, ecology and forestry principles.
