I love teaching and helping students to learn. I like to make learning fun and exciting. As an academic librarian I specialize in connecting students to information and helping them to succeed in their studies.
In the past I have taught online Introduction to Research for graduate students at Fort Hays State University. Currently I teach Archives and Manuscripts in the Spring term at Pittsbug State University. I also volunteer with Joplin NALA.
I have experience with studying for the reading and writing portion of the GRE, SAT, Compass, and PSAT tests. I'm highly organized and expect my students to have completed their homework and be ready to go over it at the beginning of each session.
I'm passionate about English Literature, reading and writing. I was Sigma Tau Delta in Undergrad. To me there is nothing more fun than discussing literature and writing about it. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I grew up in church and attended non-denominational religious schools growing up. I have also taught Sunday school many years, and currently attend and teach Sunday school in my church. I have taught Bible Studies for Women's Ministry, College students, Jr High and most recently 10-13 year old children.
Geography has always been a favorite subject. In my English degree I concentrated on Humanities which covered world events in various geographical regions. I believe that understanding where places are in the world is vital in our global environment. Professionally I help a lot of international students that come through the library at Pittsburg State University.
I've got a BA and 33 graduate hrs in English Literature. I have a masters in library science. I volunteer with Joplin NALA. I've always excelled in reading and reading skills were the highest on my standardized test scores.
