About Sherie

My name is Sherie. I am an RN-ADN, an RN-BSN and an MSN - Nurse Educator degree, with a minor in psychology. I am a mother of three grown children, wife of a wonderful & supportive husband, and 2 dogs/1 cat. It is my passion to produce a positive impact in my student's lives by improving your confidence, solidifying your knowledge and skill set, I also work with my students to determine their needs in order to design a tutoring plan specifically for you!

I'm a patient instructor, and am skilled and experienced! I've been an RN for 14+ years. My experience is in Labor & Delivery, Women's Health, Orthpedics, Medical Surgical, Community Health, and Case Management, which encompassed all medical and social issues. I am currently the Digital Media Manager for a new non-profit called "Population Health Manager, and also serve as a member of the clinical advisory committee. I welcome the opportunity through WyZant to provide tutoring sessions to nursing students, on any nursing topic. I am an Online Tutor only.

During my RN to BSN graduation, I was given the Excellence in College Leadership Award from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. This award was given to the student who excelled in their education while contributing significantly to their community.

I am a member of the 2015 Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare and have been awarded lifetime membership in it's International Nurses Association.
I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa- Honor Society for community college.
I am also a member in both Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nurses and The Golden Key International Honor Society beginning my career in Graduate School at Walden University. Most of my education has been achieved online. In addition, I joined the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner program at Walden, completed my course of study and began clinical. I became severely ill during my clinical and, per doctors orders, had to leave that course of study for health reasons. My cumulative GPA for all programs at Walden was 3.5. I believe in being a life-long learner, whether that means more college, or other educational avenues!

My philosophy and Goals for myself and my students are as follows:

Ensure Excellence in Nursing Education and learner-centered teaching.
Provide Tutoring Education and Experience which enhances learner growth, understanding of curriculum, and motivation/encouragement to succeed.
Expand Research and Scholarship within the nursing field.
Enhance Community Partnerships to improve opportunities to provide education to persons in need, research and partnership to improve community.
Innovate and Synergize Professional Development and Inter-professional Education.
Develop Resources for Sustainability and Growth

These points mean that my teaching style is more learner or student-centered, rather than me lecturing and boring my students! I believe my students have life and work experiences that will contribute to many topics we may address. I am also a proponent of research. I believe it is important to contribute to learning new ways to impact a community positively and constructively. I have been a very active member of my community and my heart is to always leave a place or a person with new knowledge, a thought that can be directed as a powerful change agent in our lives as well as those around us!

Additional Experience

I have taught many different community classes such as Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, swim lessons for toddlers and special needs children, applied behavioral analysis for one on one tutoring with autistic children, exercise classes for expectant moms and built support group for them, as well as childbirth education.

Prior to my entering nursing school, I was an Assistant Director of a Preschool. I trained the age level instructors, ran the center, interviewed employees and worked with parents and children to promote a positive daily environment conducive to learning.

I have a tremendous amount of life experience as well as my education and degree as a Nurse Educator. I am a caring and disciplined person and I enjoy getting to know my students. I enjoy challenging my students, in order to help them achieve their goals. I do not overwhelm students, but gently direct ideas and thoughts toward goal completion by assigning homework to gain understanding. I look forward to meeting you and discussing your needs and goals! We will make sure to work together to make your goals a reality and your education a success!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Fitness

I am an RN with a MS in Nurse education. A portion of my education includes health, wellness and fitness. I have worked as a Health and wellness coach. I also worked at my local YMCA for 10+ years as a land & aquatic fitness instructor. I took YMCA certifications, Silver Sneakers certification and Arthritis Foundation certifications to teach a variety of populations knowledgeably & skillfully. I also designed the pre-natal aquatic fitness class and formed a support group with the class participants. I was working as a labor & delivery staff RN at the time. I have years of training, education and experience in teaching rehab aquatic classes, special needs swim instructor for children with autism & cerebral palsy and community health classes.

Nursing

My nursing experience began as a Labor & Delivery RN at the largest "baby" hospital in my area. I worked with regular deliveries, prepped mothers for C-Sections, was a Circulating nurse in the OR, baby nurse in OR, worked Recovery Room, and took care of mothers who suffered from complications preterm and needed expert care. I also took training and received certification as a Bereavement counselor for families who suffered a preterm loss or still birth. I was certified as a Lamaze childbirth provider, and later became a childbirth educator.

My career changed when, due to health reasons, I couldn't do floor nursing any longer. I became a telephonic Case Manager for workman's compensation clients, their employers, lawyers, physicians and other providers. After a few years, I switched to Hospital case management near my home. I was a patient advocate and assisted in coordinating the best care for that patient with the entire patient care team such as physicians, ancillary staff: PT, OT, Respiratory, Radiology, etc. Our hospital had one Social worker, so many times, we assumed that role and counseled the patient and their family if they needed additional care in an assisted living center or rehabilitation center.

I have provided health and fitness classes for older adults, performed community health education classes and taught Red Cross CPR, O2, AED and First Aid. I have also taught swim lessons for children with special needs such as autism or cerebral palsy, I developed and taught the prenatal aquatic fitness class at my local YMCA, and coordinated the participants in a support group for new and experienced moms. I have also used applied behavior therapy during sessions with a student, who had autism, in their home.

My previous profession was an Assistant Director of a preschool. I hired and trained the staff on age appropriate learning experiences and care. I managed the staff and children frequently, and took numerous early childhood education classes to maintain state requirements. I also bought all food and classroom requirements and maintained budget.
Much of my time was filled with conversation between parents, staff and interaction with the children. It was a great job and I loved all of the children!
