My name is Sumita. I am currently working as an Assistant Instructor at a local branch of nationally recognized tutoring center where I help kids with elementary math and reading. I have completed my higher studies in India and was working as a Research Consultant in ASER, an organization working in the field of elementary education in India with chapters here in USA as well from March 2010 to October 2011. In my capacity as a consultant, I was heading the capacity Building Unit which was involved in creating curriculum and assessment modules, and teaching elementary level English and Math. I also possess an Advanced Post Graduate Research Degree (M.Phil) from Delhi School of Economics, India, in Sociology and am a certified teacher having cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET).
As a educator, I feel the most important skill that one needs is to be a good listener. Before I take on any student, my aim will be to gauge what their own understanding is of their inherent strengths and weaknesses. That understanding will help me devise a study model that is uniquely tailored to the students needs. I also give great importance to working consistently. Every student has their own pace but it is important to go back on the concepts that have been taught every single day without fail. Hence I would strongly recommend a designated study time and place to achieve the maximum out of the program. I will work with the curriculum that the student is following at school. Small homework assignments would greatly help the students in strengthening their concepts and a thorough assessment at the end of each topic will be used to determine the students mastery of the topic and whether it is time to move on to the next or practice some more. I like to plan my lessons in advance and would appreciate that I be informed in advance of any changes in the schedule. I look forward to a relationship based on trust and open communication with my students. My name is Sumita. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
