I am an enthusiastic educator with experience in student education (K-6), curriculum development, and professional training of teachers in English Language Arts standards, curriculum content, and instructional methods. My love of learning inspires me to help students achieve their best. It is my goal to select the most effective strategies and materials that are aligned to the student’s needs and their learning style.
My specialty is elementary reading and writing. I have an extensive background in English Language Arts standards. Knowledge of the standards and their expectations is the key in providing students with lessons that are sound and relevant. It is important that students connect to what they are learning. For this reason it is essential to keep students engaged by bridging what they know with what they need to learn.
As a tutor, I request frequent communication with the student and their parent to ensure that learning is progressing, and if not, adjustments will be made immediately. Tutoring is a very important part of the learning process. It provides additional learning time that is individualized and specific to the needs of the student. Tutoring works best when the student is attentive during tutoring sessions, focused on learning, engaged in the learning process, and is supported by the parent. There is the expectation that the student will attend regular sessions and complete follow-up assignments. Although there is a 24 hour cancellation notice, I am flexible and will work with the student and his/her parent to ensure that sessions occur on a regular basis.
Tutoring sessions in my home are in a pleasant environment and without distractions. Please allow me the opportunity to be your learning partner and help you achieve your goals.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
