About Tom

I'm working in a public school setting as the Teaching Assistant and piano accompanist for the three show choirs at our local high school! My special areas of interest are French (I lived for ten years in France, living and working in the French language); Piano (I've played the piano since I was around five years old); and Math (a subject that has always interested me). In addition, I was a Teaching Assistant at the University of Missouri while studying for my MBA degree there, and I've had frequent opportunities to teach both children and adults in church settings.

I was a successful Math student in high school and college, studying through college-level Calculus and Statistics. I have taught my own children Math in a homeschool setting for approximately fifteen years.

I lived and worked in southeastern France for ten years, and for one year in Brussels, Belgium from 1988-2000. I have been a substitute teacher for the French classes at our local high school.

I have played the piano for nearly 50 years now, for pleasure and also in school choir and church settings. I am presently the accompanist for the three show choirs at our local high school.

I love to learn, and I'd love to help you succeed in your own learning experience. I'm easy to reach and will respond quickly. Feel free to contact me if you have questions, or to schedule an appointment.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Piano

I learned the piano as a young man, nearly fifty years ago. I currently accompany three high school choirs in the town where I live, and I accompany singing at my church. I have played the piano in these roles since high school. I have also taught my own children to play the piano.
