Missouri Southern State University (English)
I tutored some while I was in high school. My favorite part of tutoring is being able to see the person I'm helping finally comprehend the subject because they get so excited and happy, which makes me happy for them. Being able to help foster a love of learning for someone else is the best feeling in the world.
As someone who wants to be a future author, I especially love helping others with any English-related subject. I'm by no means a "grammar nazi", because I understand that everyone, myself included, can make mistakes. I like to work with kids because I remember how hard it can be to grasp certain subjects, such as grammar rules, and I know that I have the patience to work with them to help them.
As far as my education, I spent my first two years of high school at Webb City High School. After that I was accepted into the Missouri Academy of Science,Mathematics, and Computing at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville,MO. With the Missouri Academy, I was able to spend my last two years of high school working on my first two years of college, and I was able to graduate with my High School Diploma and my Associate's of Science simultaneously. From there,I decided that I would rather be closer to home, and I transferred to Missouri Southern State University in Joplin,MO to continue my education.
My current degree that I am working on is a double major: Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and Bachelor's of Arts in Professional/ Technical Writing with an emphasis in Creative Writing. I do a lot of writing in my free time, and have gotten 2nd place in a writing contest locally.
While I love English and have a passion for it, I know it isn't for everyone. I also know that it is a mandatory subject, whether you're in kindergarten, high school, or even college. So, if I can help even one person become a better, more confident writer, I definitely want to do so. Even though one may not want to go into English or writing professionally, writing is something we all have to do every day, so it is important to be the best writer we can be. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
