Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

ACT math tutoring will focus on the 50 concepts that the test covers, which eliminates a lot of superfluous mathematics material. Use an ACT math tutor to hone down specific math and test taking skills.

ACT Science

The content of the Science Test includes biology, chemistry, physics, and the Earth/space sciences (for example, geology, astronomy, and meteorology). Advanced knowledge in these subjects is not required, but background knowledge acquired in general, introductory science courses is needed to answer some of the questions. The test emphasizes scientific reasoning skills over recall of scientific content, skill in mathematics, or reading ability

Algebra 1

This course introduces the properties and operations of the real number system as well as the use of algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities. Students learn to construct graphs of linear and quadratic functions and to use graphs to solve problems. Students are given opportunities
to work with concrete manipulatives, to utilize calculator and computer technology, and to apply algebraic thinking and problem solving to everyday life.

Algebra 2

Algebra II extends the concepts of Algebra I to a more formal level. The course of study is designed to extend the development of numbers to include the study of the complex numbers as a mathematical system, to expand the concept of functions to include quadratic, exponential and logarithmic
functions, to analyze the concepts, and to develop additional problem-solving skills.

This course emphasizes the seasonal changes observed in the night sky including
constellations, galaxies, stars, planets, and the sun and the moon. Instrumentations such as satellites, telescopes and spectroscopes will be studied along with techniques used to measure the size and distance of astronomical objects. Historical developments in astronomy will be

Biology is a laboratory science course that covers the study of living things. Biology focuses on the study of life by examining the fundamental concepts of cellular biology, genetics, ecology, and physiology. The scientific process and laboratory skills are emphasized along with biology’s
connections to other scientific disciplines.

Chemistry is a laboratory science course that covers the study
of a variety of topics that include: characteristics of matter;
energy transformations; atomic structure; behavior of gases;
bonding; solutes; and chemical reactions. Students will
investigate how chemistry is an integral part of our daily lives.

This course provides an introduction to the structure of geometry and to basic geometric figures and concepts. Some of the topics covered are properties of angles, perpendicular and parallel lines and planes, congruent triangles and their applications, similar polygons, right triangles, circles, area and volume, coordinate geometry, and plane transformations and mappings.

Physical Science

I have been a classroom teacher or 20 years. I have extensive experience in teaching math and science. Physical science is a combination of the chemistry and physics which prepares the student for high school sciences.

This course contains the elements of trigonometry, analytic geometry and elementary analysis. It prepares students for further mathematical study in college.
