(3) Columbia College Missouri (Secondary Education)
Hello, I am a single, 28 year old, teacher from Mid-Missouri. I haven't always wanted to be a teacher, but you can't really fight fate forever! Growing up, I wanted to be a doctor like my dad, but my abilities in Math and Science were not nearly strong enough. My inherent ability to work with children and my strong passion for reading and language arts led me to becoming a substitute teacher while I worked toward my teaching certification. Through my time subbing, I fell in love with teaching at the middle level. Try as I might to fight my natural abilities as a teacher, fate led me back to the school I was raised in to teach and coach.
I am a Middle School Teacher who has taught at a private school for the last two years. Before that, I was a paraprofessional in the special needs room at an elementary school. I have worked in the class setting as well as in a one-on-one situation. While in college, I was a nanny and tutored the children that I was watching. I have a strong belief that if students feel respected and understood, that they will strive to do more and be better. I challenge myself daily to push each student but also to make sure they feel understood and comfortable expressing concerns, frustrations or challenges. I love working with children and watching them understand or grasp a concept that they were struggling with before.
I have been teaching Middle School ELA and Reading for two years. I work everyday to find unique and creative lessons to challenge my students but are also fun and enjoyable. I was an English major in college and have a strong passion for reading. I love to find new ways to ignite children's passion for reading and learning.
I look forward to helping you with your educational needs. Please contact me with any inquiries on further needs, dates, or times available. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken 10 credit hours in college alone toward Public Speaking.
I have organized many school plays which involve public speaking and performance.
I have been the Speech Coordinator for the last two years and have organized Speech Meets and prepared multiple students bi-monthly to participate and compete.
I have led my students through speech writing units and talked extensively about what goes into each type of speech.
