I have worked as a Laboratory Instructor for a Cognitive Psychology upper-level undergraduate course at UMD. Within that course, I helped design experiments for my students, edited their APA-style lab reports, and guided them through their own experiments (resulting in IRB-approved, publishable articles). I have also worked as a 1:1 teaching assistant for children with special needs, ranging from preschool to middle school aged.

My current coursework is very writing and reading intensive, but my years spent in high school and college also earned me the reputation of a skilled proofreader and writer. In high school, I was inducted into English Honors Society and National Honor Society, in addition to earning high marks in all honors and AP-level classes.

I also have extensive performing arts experience, and those public speaking skills easily translate to the classroom. My five seasons spent performing Shakespeare helped develop my public speaking and presentation skills, in addition to offering me the opportunity to delve into the history, politics, literature, and culture of Elizabethan England.

High School English Courses: British Literature Honors, Contemporary Literature Honors, AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition
College English Courses: Sophomore Writing Seminar (Medicine and Literature)
High School History Courses: Global History I Honors, AP World History, AP American History, AP European History
College History Courses: 18th Century European History, Myth and History of Robin Hood, Religious Tolerance in Medieval Spain, Women in the Pre-Modern West, Medieval Britain and Ireland

Public Speaking

My university courses demand frequent presentations on complex psychology topics. Throughout my academic career, I have represented my programs and schools as an ambassador and recruiter, requiring speeches (both scripted and improvised) in front of large audiences (up to 1000 people). Furthermore, I have over 10 years of performing arts experience- including 5 seasons as lead actress for a Shakespeare Company in NY and numerous solo vocal and instrumental performances.

My AP and Honors courses throughout high school helped prepare me for writing-intensive courses in college and graduate school. Currently, I am an instructor for an upper-level Psychology course at UMD, and I edit/grade the APA-style research papers and lab reports from my students.

Study Skills

My background in clinical psychology and cognitive science often focuses on understanding how the brain processes, organizes, recalls, and communicates information. A high achieving student myself, I have my own set of study guides and strategies to share with students, but I`m also passionate about finding the right approach for each individual. My additional experience teaching and assisting in various courses across a student's lifespan also prepares me to construct developmentally appropriate supports.

Knowledgeable, patient and very flexible tutor

Stephanie jumped in at the last second to help my college freshman son with a psychology paper. She spent so much time with him over the weekend and made sure it was done on time and in full. He seemed to develop a great rapport with her and this may be the beginning of a great relationship. I highly highly recommend Stephanie!!!
