I became interested in languages through the exchange students I met in high school. I loved that we could communicate and connect though we came from such different places and grew up speaking different languages. After studying Spanish in college and completing a teaching certification, I volunteered for a year as an adult ESL teacher and reading and literacy tutor for elementary school students. When that experience drew to a close, I became exciting about working in the book publishing field. I took a course that focused heavily on editing and the process to get a book published. I currently work in marketing, but am proficient in Spanish, English, editing, grammar, writing, and test taking. My teaching background is an asset to me in any context, but I found that I prefer to work individually or with smaller groups of people. I would love the chance to learn from you, hear your story, and teach you.
Though I did not formally study English, I have many editing and writing experiences. As I mentioned previously, I took a publishing course at the University of Denver and came away with a great grasp on developmental and line editing among other things. I also taught ESL for a year and would be happy to work with students to improve their conversational, writing, or technical language skills.
I studied Spanish formally for 8 years and lived in Chile for 5 months. I also worked at a family resource center for Latino immigrants in which the entire staff was bilingual and a majority of the clients only spoke Spanish. I passed many exams in Spanish to receive a teaching license, but I also was able to pass all four GED exams in Spanish (which I took to help my adult Spanish-speaking GED students), as well. I have experience tutoring middle school and high school, but would work with any age.
Though I am young and busy, I can't think of a more rewarding experience than to work one-on-one with a student on enhancing their literacy and communications in English or Spanish. If you are looking for someone to make you feel comfortable, boost your confidence, and achieve your goals, please reach out to me. Thanks! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
