About Kirstie

I am a reading intervention teacher. I have been teaching for 3 full years, going into my 4th year this fall. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and I am currently working towards my Masters in Language and Literacy.

I'd love to share my expertise and help young readers who might need a bit of a push! I have experience working with 1st and 3rd grade students.

Over the course of a school year, about 80% of my students have shown reading growth.

I love seeing my students being able to grasp reading concepts and excel. It is such delight and a great reward as a teacher.

I have conducted assessments for reading and vocabulary and my students have shown growth in as little as a months time. I plan to travel later this month (July 2016) to expand my knowledge about reading intervention.

I played softball for about 13 years. I played club ball as well as high school ball. I was the main pitcher for my team(s). My club team earned 2nd at nationals 2 years in a row, one of which I earned Outstanding Defense Player. I have 3 main pitches that I am proficient at: Fastball, Change-Up & Drop-ball.

If you are looking for an experienced teacher or softball athlete, I would love to help!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

In my three years of experience teaching as a reading intervention teacher I have worked with 1st and 3rd graders. These students lack basic phonics skills such as sounding out words (reading and writing), using blends correctly, as well as a identifying sight words/high frequency words. Through a variety of strategies and educational based activities, I am able to help students become successful with the phonics as they pertain to reading/writing.

Softball

I am experienced in the game of softball. I played for 13 years total, while on a club team and my high school teams. My team took 2nd at nationals two years in a row and at one of those, I earned an 'Outstanding Defensive Player' award. I have three main pitches that I threw: fastball, change-up and drop-ball. I have previously given pitching lessons for one year.
