About Michele

As I begin this brief bio, I reflect upon my years of teaching and tutoring. It makes me smile, thinking about all that I have imparted to my students, both children, adolescents and adult learners. In retrospect, I truthfully have learned so much from my students, probably, as much as I've taught them. My experience with tutoring has been in a private venue, as well as in an agency setting. I love the idea of interacting with a student, in a one-on-one situation. I initially attempt to understand that student's strengths in learning, and the academic challenges they may have. I am a creative tutor, incorporating any resource that is exciting, fun, and one that assists the student's understanding of a topic. I praise my student's feats as much as possible. We humans want to feel good about having accomplished something.

Educationally, I have a B.A. in Sociology and a M.S. in Human Services. I am originally from the East Coast, arriving in Kansas City, MO as a V.I.S.T.A. (Volunteers in Service to America). Once my teaching at an alternative high school ended, I began private tutoring adolescent and adult learners in reading and writing skills. In the last two years, I was a volunteer tutor with an agency and was a part-time adult literacy instructor. In conclusion, prospective student, I am thrilled to begin work with you, empowering you with skills that will allow you to feel confident in the area of concern. Let's begin this exciting journey!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
