As a successful watercolor painter, I am often asked if I give lessons. Until now, I simply haven't had the time, having enjoyed a long career with Hallmark Cards. I'm excited about the opportunity to teach this medium I love and to help others find enjoyment and success with their painting.
I have a custom pet portrait business. In addition to painting pets, I love to paint a variety of subjects, including flowers and trees. I'm skilled in delivering a range of styling from fresh traditional (realism) to more expressive, contemporary painting that takes advantage of the wonderful fluidity of the medium.
I earned my BFA-Design from the University of Kansas, majoring in Visual Communications with a combined track of Graphic Design and Illustration. My watercolor dog portraits have received recognition in the Art Show at the Dog Show, a nationally juried show dedicated to canine art. I currently have my paintings on greetings cards, catalog covers, and in private collections.
Whether you're a budding artist or an experienced painter who has been fearful of watercolor, I believe I can help you gain confidence in and increase your enjoyment of watercolor painting. I'd prefer to teach in my home studio, but am willing to travel to you, if that is more convenient. As a successful watercolor painter, I am often asked if I give lessons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I fondly remember my first drawing classes as a child and my teacher who taught me to squint to see shapes and shadows more clearly. With just a few simple tools - a pencil, a charcoal pencil, and a kneaded erasure - I started on a journey that has become a lifetime love of art. Having a caring and dedicated instructor was fundamental to my love and success with drawing. Drawing is the foundation of all painting, including my favorite medium, watercolor.
