About Kyle

Hello!

I'm a medical student at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences currently seeking opportunities to hone and enhance my teaching as someone who is seeking to pursue a career not only as a physician but as a medical educator as well.

Currently, I am a paid teaching assistant for the medical school where I assist in teaching first year medical students in the basic sciences (biochemistry, mol/cell biology, immunology, physiology, anatomy, and embryology) and am currently planning to return as a teaching assistant to support the learning of second year medical students during their course of pathology. I

I graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Human Biology in which I achieved multiple scholarly awards including departmental honors, provost honors, a multitude of honor society inductions, as well as the opportunity to complete a senior level honors thesis with the UCSD Department of Gastroenterology. I was not only an appointed undergraduate teaching apprentice for the Division of Biology's Metabolic Biochemistry course but was further invited to become a paid Teaching Assistant for the same course due to excellent reviews by students and professor. My passion in tutoring simply comes from a love for teaching. There is a great duty that comes with understand the dynamics within teaching an learning and I feel that throughout my education I have been able to not only perform but learn under a variety of teaching styles that include team based learning, problem based learning, and application to real life scenarios.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

Current medical school tutor for gross and clinical anatomy, physiology, and immunology.

Biology

Coursework completed: Lower division biology, genetics, human physiology, metabolic biochemistry, molecular mechanisms of human disease, endocrinology, pharmacology, medical microbiology, immunology (in progress)

Academic/education: Teaching Assistant/Undergraduate Instructional Assistant for Metabolic Biochemistry for Dr. Hampton, PH.D. and Dr. Coleman, PH.D.

Research: Senior Honors Research Fellow- Immunological pathogenesis of IBD, mouse models. UCSD School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology.

Guitar

I have had around 7 years of guitar experience. I have gained formal training beginning my senior year of high school with basic and advanced guitar theory followed with sight reading training through a worship team during my first two years of college which has subsequently followed with foundational jazz guitar theory training. I have had experience teaching around 15 guitarists in modes, scales, solo techniques, chord composition, and song composition.

MCAT

I completed this exam in order to apply for medical school. I scored in the 55th percentile in verbal reasoning, 85th percentile in physical sciences (inorganic chemistry and physics), and 95th percentile in biological sciences (all areas of biology and organic chemistry).

Currently, I am a medical student who has succeeded in the top 15% of my class with my MCAT score. I have been able to tutor and guide multiple pre-medical students through the exam preparation in which they have been successful in the exam.

Microbiology

Top scores in medical school level clinical microbiology.

Nursing

Prior relevant research experience: UCSD Honors Thesis with the UCSD Dept. of Medicine/Division of Gastroenterology. Formal thesis with publication in university science journal, poster presentation, and formal oral presentation amongst experts in mucosal immunology and inflammation biology and microflora and enteric systems biology.

Current research: clinical medical research in internal medicine.

Physiology

Qualified medical school anatomy and physiology tutoring small groups of 5-20 first year medical students in the following courses: renal physiology, musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology, cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, clinical biochemistry, and clinical immunology.
