I specialize in teaching music theory and composition, and my primary aim is to keep students motivated about functions in musical notation and texture. At the same time, I seek to have them develop an innovative interest in developing their own musical ideas and to that end, I assign them homework assignments in theory and, periodically, short composition assignments for them to write. The way I approach things, I know for sure about most people's interest in science nowadays, and I intend to incorporate some similar function like how cells work and chemical compounds react into the way music notation is handled. That way, my students can maintain their interest in the fields of science and at the same time bridge a connection between science and the way music works.
My love of teaching comes from a love of spreading knowledge to future generations. As a candidate of a Doctoral degree, I strongly believe that a high degree of enthusiasm towards learning can prove to be a huge benefit in students' future lives. I have never had such an opportunity like this before. I am a flexible person when it comes to time. While I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, Depending on any circumstances with students, I offer makeup classes. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you cultivate an interest in musical writing! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a DMA student in Music Composition in the University of Missouri, Kansas City. I received my Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Composition from the University of Southern California. I have studied composition for 12 years.
I started studying keyboard theory when I was in elementary school with a series of handbooks. I was promoted by one level in my high school years after passing through a placement test and passed out of the most advanced levels in the theory examinations held in Irvine, CA. I also advanced by one level during my college undergraduate years in USC after taking a similar placement test.
