Since July 2013, I have been working as an Actuary in the insurance field. This allows me to keep studying and to use my mathematical skills on a daily basis. I have passed exams P (Probability), FM (Financial Mathematics), MFE (Models of Financial Economics), and C (Construction and Evaluation of Actuarial Models). Currently, I am studying for my next exam MLC (Models for Life Contingencies).
From June 2013 to September 2014, I instructed College Mathematics I and II at a local college here in the Kansas City area part time. This included basic math, Algebra, Trigonometry, and other topics including polar coordinates, matrices, and conic sections. Previously from March 2013 to July 2013, I instructed math at a local Mathnasium in the Kansas City area; here I gained experience working with students ranging from 2nd grade through college beginners.
On December 14th 2012, I graduated from Missouri State University with a Master of Science degree in Mathematics; earning a high GPA of 3.84. The thesis work I did was in Statistics. While at Missouri State University, I gained two and a half years of teaching experience as a Graduate Assistant and as a Per Course Instructor; covering classes over Algebra I and II.
In the Spring of 2010, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a Minor in Physics from Missouri Western State University. While at MWSU, I earned a high GPA of 3.64 and was also honored with the Georg Friedrich Riemann award for outstanding work in Mathematics. While at MWSU, I gained 4 years of tutoring experience as a Developmental Math Tutor; covering concepts from basic math through Algebra.
I enjoy teaching and learning very much! Currently, I have more than ten years of teaching and tutoring experience in math alone! This has included everything from basic math to graduate level courses to students ranging from 2nd grade all the way up to graduate degree seeking students.
It is gratifying for me to make a difference in the students' lives by helping them understand these interesting (and beautiful) mathematical concepts. I have had students share with me that I was able to explain math to them in such a way that they could now understand concepts that had been previously too difficult for them.
I look forward to learning more about tutoring mathematics positions. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss whether my skills would be a good fit to benefit your path of education and if the tutoring position is a good fit for my career.
Thanks for your consideration; I look forward to hearing from you!

Elana was a very polite, dependable
and helpful tutor. She was very knowledgeable of Biostatistics! It's a very challenging course but she helped me to get up to speed quick and I received an A for my final grade at a Masters level for my Healthcare Administration degree. I would highly recommend her!
Elena is helping me prepare to start a new job where I'll be using SQL. Immediately I was very comfortable around her, and her patient teaching style, taking the time to explain what she is doing, drawing diagrams, pictures, etc., really allowed me to get a better grasp on the brand new materials. Also, my computer was having trouble opening up our desired software, but she was able to quickly bypass that issue and keep our lesson on track via use of a similar program. Very nice session and look forward to the next.
Elena made the most of the hour spent with my daughter. She covered a lot and made sure she knew the material before moving to the next section. We highly recommend, Elena!
My son really liked her. I am impressed with her degree in math. She stays in touch very well and is easy to get a hold of. She replies to your email promptly.
Elena seems knowledgeable in the area of geometry which is exactly what my daughter needs. She was patient in her lesson and friendly upon initial meeting. My daughter seemed comfortable with her but since this was our first lesson and meeting I'm not able to give much feedback outside her willingness to make this session happen as she contacted me and we were able to setup this session with ease so I'm satisfied thus far. I plan to stick with her right now. Thank you for making this happen for us.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken Differential Equations once as an undergrad and received an A at Missouri Western State University and twice as a graduate student in Theory of Ordinary Differential Equations I and II and received a B and a B+ respectively each at Missouri State University.
Graduate Differential Equations I: Theory and application of boundary value problems; periodic solutions; linear systems with periodic coefficients (Floquet theory); two dimensional (autonomous) systems limit cycles. Differential equations under Caratheodory conditions; and theory of differential and integral inequalities.
Graduate Differential Equations II: Existence and uniqueness theorems for first order differential equations; stability of systems of linear and nonlinear differential equations; continuous dependence of solutions on initial conditions and parameters; linearization, stable manifold and Hartman-Grobman theorems.
