I got my PhD degree in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University, and did a few years’ research at the University of California, Berkeley. Now I am a College Professor in Chemistry. I have taught General Chemistry I and II, Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis in the past ten years. My teaching has been well received by students with various backgrounds ranging from Chemistry, to Biology, Pharmacy, Nurse, Physics, English, Literature, etc. I work with students using examples to illustrate the principles and concepts, along with practicing problems. Depending on students’ background and performance, I design tailored problems so students can have a good grasp of the principles and concepts. When tutoring, I work with students on step-by-step problem-solving process. I work with students to find how they best learn and provide them with the tools that they need to succeed. I understand well the psychology behind learning and pass this information along to students to help them make changes to their study habits. I foster the science and curiosity driving problem solving. So the students learn not only the knowledge, but also the general skills in solving problems.
I have also over six years’ one-to-one or one-to-group tutoring experience for elementary, middle-school and high-school students on various subjects, such as math and physics. I have been tutoring my kids and their friends’ math since their elementary years. I develop interesting problems and examples to illustrate the fundamentals first, and then show step-by-step problem-solving process, so kids not only understand the concepts but also learn good habits in problem-solving. I not only make the problem-solving process enjoyable, but also show clearly the step-by-step problem-solving process. So kids not only know how to solve problems, but also learn how to present the process of solving problems. It has always been a big pleasure to see how the kids grow and succeed.
