Hi there. and welcome to my tutoring/teaching profile! My name is Shelby and I am here to help you succeed in your goals, whether they be to improve your reading skills, extend your cooking repertoire, or even just practice your English and become familiar with American culture. As a student pursuing my Master's in Teaching I was awarded the Student Teacher of the Year award by my university, teaching 1st and 2nd grade, and graduated from that program with a 4.0 GPA. I have taught everything from Senior Citizen's chair-based Yoga, to high school scripture classes, and many things in-between as I worked as a substitute teacher. As three of my own children have now graduated college and two more completing their secondary schooling, my hope of helping them love to learn has been fulfilled! Learning can be such a great adventure and now that I've run out of my own children to help, I look forward to the fun of helping you successfully explore the world through education. I would be happy to set up a free consultation to discuss your needs and let you determine if I am a good fit to help you meet your goals.
My passion for including people of many backgrounds and cultures in my circle of friendship has enriched my life. My hope is to help others feel confident in their use of English so that they can express themselves well and feel that they are understanding English in both formal settings and in casual conversation. The focus in my Master's in Teaching degree was visual literacy.
Although I have no formal training in culinary arts, I have always enjoyed preparing good food! I have dabbled in many ethnic cuisines, am well-versed in nutrition and wellness, and have lived through the days when the family supper needed to be on the table - and fast! I would love to share some of the foundational skills that give me a framework from which I can build with the ingredients around me. Let's have some kitchen fun as friends!
