So what makes me stand out as being an awesome person and tutor? That is a very good question. I am simply me. So I think that is pretty awesome. Here is a little bit about myself. I spent the last year abroad in Brazil where I integrated myself into the culture and successfully learned the Portuguese language. In the beginning, I felt as dumb as a bump on a log trying to learn the basic phrases like, "Where is the bathroom?" or "What time is it?" But I can honestly say the rewards of knowing a second language are absolutely amazing! It opens up your view to a whole new world that is out there! As far as my background; in high school
I took four years of Spanish and have a good grasp on the grammar aspect of both the Spanish and Portuguese language as well as knowing a lot of the local Brazilian banter, which isn't taught in the classroom a lot of the times. I will admit, I don't have a lot of prior experience with tutoring but I adapt easily to any circumstances thrown at me and have always found the field of education very fascinating!
I am very easy to work with and try to incorporate fun into learning while keeping a disciplined and educational curriculum. I always welcome constructive criticism. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
