About Sarah

My love of teaching comes from a passion for life-long learning. From earning a college scholarship to studying abroad, I have enjoyed the benefits of success in education and where those successes can lead. I am certified in English grades 6-12, Elementary Education, and Special Education Mild-Moderate Cross Categorical grades K-12. Five years of teaching experience has provided me with invaluable knowledge of curriculum and study skills.

I am highly experienced in teaching students one-on-one, modifying techniques and curriculum to best suit individual students' needs, and preparing students for success in education and life. By teaching Special Education and Alternative School for four years, my approach to individual students has been fine-tuned to meet each student's unique requirements for success. I fully enjoy learning and wish to instill that trait in my students by incorporating what they enjoy into curriculum and relating their lessons to everyday life.

I try to be as flexible as possible. I do require a 24 hour notice of cancellation in order to work around my schedule as a substitute teacher. I prefer to meet and work in public spaces like libraries, coffee houses, etc.

I am fully certified and have taught English for 5 years and Elementary grades for 1 year.

I absolutely love Social Studies! I have taught cross-curricular classes, including Social Studies, in an Alternative School setting for 3 years.

I am fully certified and have taught Special Education for 4 years as a para-educator and Special Education Alternative School director and teacher.

With confidence in education comes a true sense of self and what you, as an individual, are capable of and what you have to contribute. Allow me to help you build your confidence! Schedule a lesson today!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold an active, continuous career certification in Elementary Education (K-6th). I have taught one year of 2nd grade and have tutored grades K-6th. As a former alternative school educator, I have utilized Elementary Education teaching methods with students grades 9-12 as a majority of my students were below 8th grade level in reading and math.

Social Studies

As an alternative school educator and director, I taught students grades 9-12 in all high school curriculum, including Social Studies. Their courses included, but were not limited to, American History, World History, Ancient History, Economics, and Government. If needed, curriculum was modified to better suit a student's needs to include middle school Social Studies courses, i.e. Civics and Geography.

Special Needs

I hold a Special Education: Mild to Moderate Cross Categorical (K-12) continuous career certificate. I have two years' experience in teaching Special Education as a para-educator and as an alternative school Special Education teacher. Partnering with students, I excel at creating Individualized Learning Plans that set clear goals and maximize a student's strengths while focusing on areas that need improvement.
