Bio

Hi, I'm Shaina. I graduated from California State University of Monterey Bay, where I received my Bachelor's in Humanities and Communications, and where I earned my CA Single Subject Teaching Credential in ELA. After graduating, I spent 4 amazing years teaching at an IB World School. Hi, I'm Shaina. I graduated from California State University of Monterey Bay, where I received my Bachelor's in Humanities and Communications, and where I earned my CA Single Subject Teaching Credential in ELA. After graduating, I spent 4 amazing years teaching at an IB World School. During that time, I taught MYP English 1 and 2 (9th and 10th grade English), ERWC for the 11th and 12th grades, and IB HL Language and Literature Years 1 and 2. My time teaching high school gave me the opportunity to gain experience helping students improve their essay writing, close reading, literary analysis, creative writing, and grammar skills. Additionally, I was able to prepare students for their IB exams and state tests throughout my time in the classroom. Moreover, it allowed me to develop effective teaching strategies for a wide range of students including students with IEP's or 504's and gifted or advanced students.

In the past year I made the switch to one-on-one and small group tutoring. One of the benefits of tutoring over classroom teaching, is that it allows me to truly prioritize individual student needs. As an educator, I am passionate about helping students realize their goals and ensuring that they know that it is okay to make mistakes along the way.
