About Krystal

Hello! My name is Krystal, and I am an aspiring teacher. I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with my Elementary Education degree and a minor in Music. My instrument of choice is the flute. Currently, I work for an elementary school as a Teacher Assistant to gain experience and exposure while looking for a classroom job. I interact with kids all day, every day and have great resources at my fingertips.
When I teach my students, I go at their pace. Overall improvement and confidence in their skills is what I focus on, which is difficult to build when pressured with time. I am easy-going but I expect hard work and focus from my students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have graduated with a major in Elementary Education and have my teaching license. I also work as a full-time Teacher Assistant and work with students all day either as intervention or giving them more of a challenge. As I tutor, I help students figure out the questions they are supposed to answer and how to answer them. I know how to match a students' pace with learning and will help them grow at their own pace.

Elementary Math

Elementary math is all about learning to find the right information. I used to struggle with this, but I taught myself tricks so I could take my time and work through problems accurately. They are tricks that I have carried with me through college and I share with those that also struggle. My "pupils" saw an increase in their math scores and began practicing solving problems with accuracy over speed, then speed with their accuracy. My practice is simple and with as little pressure as possible for those I teach.

Flute

I have been playing the flute since sixth grade in 2003. Since middle school, I have been involved in band and currently also involved in orchestra. As per my minor in music, I take my own private flute lessons with one of my professors. She is tough, but she can turn an unpolished rock into a princess-cut diamond. I've learned a lot from her and would love to share her wisdom with other flutists.

Music Theory

I am a music minor at Northwest Missouri State. Since I have been playing music since I was five years old (piano, then flute), my understanding of reading music is very good. I also passed my theory classes learning and understanding more behind the music. I work best with beginning musicians up to high school, as I am still learning myself but a younger musician's level of theory is still very basic. I work at their pace, because theory is no easy thing, and I will increase their knowledge of theory with time.
