About Christopher

I have two years of formal experience teaching young adults and adults in a job training and education program. There I taught everything from basic math, reading, and writing to budgeting, interviewing, and social skills. I have taught clinics on the music industry, social media, and marketing and have taught individual lessons in guitar and piano. In addition, I have spent most of my education tutoring my peers and classmates in middle school, high school, and college. I loved teaching and tutoring in these settings so much that I started branching out to tutor people in some of my other favorite subjects!

I love seeing people have eureka! moments - a specific event where they "get it." Learning is about making connections: understanding how an historical event affects your present reality, and why it matters that you know it happened; figuring out the subtle meaning communicated in a foreign expression; knowing that you CAN strike that beautiful chord and listen to its harmonies. I know that I have done my job when I see you "getting it" and you have new worlds opening within your mind.

I have studied Latin formally for four years in middle and high school and informally ever since. I love the logic and coherence of Latin, as well as the way it enlightens our thinking about English vocabulary, grammar, and writing.

I have studied Greek formally for one year in high school and informally since then. I am currently studying for a Masters degree in New Testament studies focusing on Greek language and literature.

I have taken four semesters of college-level French and have the good practice of a brother who is nearly fluent since his girlfriend of four years is a native speaker.

I can tutor any of these languages at the middle or high school level and beginning college level. I have the most experience with Latin and French, but I have a growing practice in Ancient and Koine Greek and, hopefully, will add German and Classical Hebrew to these in the next few years.

I have always understood grammar well and helped others in understanding it better. Since high school, I have edited numerous essays and papers from fellow students and classmates as well as given them advice on research, composition, bibliography, and style. In college I took several English Literature courses beyond the required curriculum in order to hone my critical thinking, reading, writing skills (as well as for enjoyment).

I am well versed in bible studies. I took formal courses in Bible and Theology during middle and high school. I also have participated in and taught several bible studies of Bible books and themes throughout my college years and beyond. I am currently studying for a Masters of Theology in New Testament.

I can tutor any of these subjects at the middle school, high school, or introductory college levels.

Please contact me if you need a tutor in any of these subjects and you are in the Columbia, Missouri area (or online!). Contact me for more details about tutoring or to schedule lessons.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have taken one year of Old Testament, one year of New Testament, and two years of Theology in high school. During my time in college, I participated in, planned, and conducted bible studies every semester either on books of the bible in the Old and New Testaments or on biblical themes (parables of Jesus in the Gospels, holiness in scripture, who is God according to the Bible?). After College, I attended a bible training institute, The Downline Institute in Memphis, TN, where I completed further study of the Old and New Testaments as well as several points of Christian Theology. I have taught bible studies to elementary, middle school, high school, and college students, and I am currently studying for a Masters of Theology with an emphasis in New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.
