University of Georgia (BFA in Photographic Design)
I have been a commercial, architectural and portrait photographer for over 20 years. Throughout this time I have been able to work with many people and companies that enjoy the process, as well as the final product that I give to them.
I started out learning the concepts of photography with traditional film to print production, first in college, and then in the commercial market. I was amongst the first to transition into the digital world and I helped other photographers to do so as well. I acquired an understanding of the digital print production with 4-color separation for printed collateral and I familiarized myself with the quality that is required in the digital file in order to create outstanding reproductions from them.
With this knowledge I am able to help those people that need or desire an understanding of all of the following:
- film and digital cameras,
- shooting RAW and/or JPG,
- lighting techniques,
- importing and batch processing,
- color management,
- digital manipulation,
- exporting images for printed material, prints, online, etc.
There are many aspects to photography that can be used and improved upon for both personal and professional development. I look forward to speaking with you about how you would like to expand on your creative abilities! I have been a commercial, architectural and portrait photographer for over 20 years. I had a very specific application that I needed to learn, I didn't want or need a class or course, so individual tutoring was the right fit. Doug was able to understand what I was working on, use his knowledge and show me what I could do with the computer program I have. Well worth it. I recommend him and Wyzant completely.
Douglas is an excellent teacher and very knowledgeable - able to guide with technical aspects of camera, picture composition and post shoot editing. I recommend him to anybody seeking a photography teacher/mentor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have over 20 years experience using Photoshop® as my primary retouching tool in photography. My expertise includes commercial and architectural work, print (4 color process), landscape and portraiture. I have worked with other photographers to finalize projects and train them in Photoshop®, thus allowing them to eventually do the work on their own.
I also have experience with individuals that are looking to improve themselves in a particular area in Photoshop®, i.e. retouching, color correction and preparing files for print. I have worked with graphic artist frequently in order to fulfill the needs of a project and I understand how to create files that are used and printed without issue. I would be glad to share this knowledge with you!

In my 20 plus years as a professional photographer I have acquired a multitude of knowledge and training. From film to digital, there has been a great transition over a relatively short period of time!
I can help you to understand manual operation of your camera using traditional film, as well as the technical aspects and interpretation of the digital media of today. You can learn about proper exposure and obtain an understanding of varying light sources, both natural and supplemental. You may want a better understanding of the camera you have and it's operation or you may need a technique for shooting portraiture, still-life, products or architecture.
If you are looking to improve your photography from the before the camera captures the image on through the process to completion, let me know how I can help you. Once you have the techniques, then all you have to do is be creative!
