Studying math gives you an ability to think, analyze, organize and calculate. It's not just an addition or multiplication. It improves our cognitive skills. I also want to emphasize that there is no quick fix or magic pill to improve your child's math ability. You need to start early, like 7th or 8th grade when a lot of new concepts are introduced.
Each child needs to feel the sense of accomplishment. However, without making effort, no one can appreciate his/her hard work. I am not saying math is easy. It can be very interesting if you work hard and get the result. I am here to show your child how fun solving math can be.
I can teach algebra I, algebra II, geometry, pre-calculus and SAT math.
I have a BA in math from a prestigious Japanese college and I was a member of Honorary National Mathematics Society of the state of New York, Pi Mu Epsilon, in college.
I am a very reliable and passionate math tutor for any ages. I can pinpoint where the problems lie and fix them. We need to act together so that your child doesn't lose confidence in math.

My daughter's grades are improving. I am happy with the progress she is making. She loves working with Eriko and feels she is getting the help she needs. THANK YOU!!!
My daughter always thought that math was her weakest subject, so we asked Eriko to help prepare her for the SAT math section. It was hard work but it paid off. Mostly they just worked with a book that contained the hardest questions on the exam. On the SAT, my daughter got over a 700 on the math portion, which made her score competitive. With that, she was able to get accepted early to a prestigious university, which also happened to be her first choice.
Not only did Eriko help my daughter with her weak points, but she gave my daughter confidence, which is the key attacking the exam. It has been about one year since her first lesson with Eriko, and my daughter has accomplished a lot with the math skills and confidence that Eriko has installed in her. Also, she feels that math is no longer her weakness. She says that she is considering an economics degree because she can't imagine not having math in her life. I believe Eriko really helped my daughter accomplish things that she never thought possible.
Eriko had quite a task in helping my daughter with her math skills. My 16-yr-old basically had to relearn key foundation mathematics skills for her Algebra 2 and Physics courses -- classes she was dreading. Eriko was truly a miracle worker! With patience, compassion and determination, she broke through my daughter's 'I hate Math' block -- with the important result being better grades in school! Not only did Eriko keep trying different techniques/approaches that would resonate with my daughter, but she also helped increase her confidence with these new-found skills. She truly helped my daughter to see, and take pride in, her own potential. I recommend Eriko highly and give her an A++ !!
Eriko makes the lessons enjoyable and is encouraging my daughter to achieve great results.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra 1 is the foundation of mathematics. If your child doesn't fully understand the concepts given in algebra 1, then it's highly likely that he/she is going to stumble upon it.
Sometimes, parents don't recognize the trouble their children are in, because students know how to plug in numbers into a calculator.
Getting the correct answer from a calculator and knowing why are totally different things.
Some people think math is numbers and calculation, which is not a correct perception.
Mathematics is reasoning and analyzing.
When I solve a math problem, I write either an equation or a graph. To do so, I have to know 1) what the problem is asking me of
2) what information I have
3) which rules I can apply
At this point, your child should be able to explain why he/she got the answer. That's how mathematics is.
Geometry give you an ability to write graphs and diagrams as well as to visualize shapes.
We can't think of geometry separately form algebra. Without skills of algebra, it's hard to study geometry.
Because of graphs and diagrams, you can improve your ability to look at things from different angles.
It's a very fun subject.
I am a native Japanese and fluent in both English and Japanese. I have been tutoring various students for several years. I helped housewives who's husbands had been transferred to Japan to make their transitions easier. I gave a crash course to a college student who did the study abroad for one semester in Japan. I received very nice e-mails commenting how much my tutoring have helped/been helping them.
Right now, I am helping several students with not only conversational Japanese but also very advanced grammar.
I am also a certified interpreter and the communication is not a problem at all. I can give very detailed explanations, my instructions are through and easy to follow. I appreciate both languages, English and Japanese, very much.
This is the best year to start tutoring. The problem your child may have is not serious yet.
This is the time when your child becomes friend with numbers. He/she needs to familiarize himself/herself relationships between numbers.
When I say relationships between numbers, I mean like 48 is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48. Then if your child see an addition of fraction where denominators are different, it's very easy to find the least common multiple.
Mathematics can be so much fun you get to know numbers well.
Nobody should be afraid of SAT Math. This test does not require any new knowledge or skills. All you have to know is basic math.
If you really need to get ready to take SAT, yes, I am more than happy to give you some tips, but you have to know what you don't know. If you are aware of your soft spots, it's much easier to fix it... If not, then it may take some time, but with your determination and my assistance, I am confident that you should be able to get a good score.
