B.S., Anderson College
Having been educated in private schools throughout elementary and high schools, I attended a small private college in Indiana. I graduated magna cum laude in 2003 with a major in History and a minor in Chemistry.
I am currently in the Army Reserves, and I a firm believer in a disciplined style of teaching and learning. Using the maxim, "Repetition is the key to learning", I will incorporate plenty of practice not just to cram for a test but actually learn the material. Cramming for a test is only a short-term solution. Having been educated in private schools throughout elementary and high schools, I attended a small private college in Indiana. Michael is very knowledgeable and presents the information with simplicity. He conveys the information in a way that is very easy to understand and be retained.
He inspires me to learn history and makes the subject very intersting!! He helps to make AP world work manageable. Great improvement in test scores.
He was able to help in a short notice and was extremely nice. He is an excellent ASVAB tutor and knows his stuff very well. He helped me not only prepare for the asvab but was also able to give me great advice about the military. He was greatly appreciated. I would definitely recommend him to another student.
We found Michael to be most responsive and helpful with our daughter and her recent college level Chemistry I class. We reached out to him via WyzAnt and he got back to us very quickly. He met us when he said he would meet us and then followed up with her throughout the rest of the semester on a weekly basis. Our daughter commented on how he has the ability to break down difficult to understand abstract concepts into "real life" topics that she could relate to in order to help her grasp the material at hand. We would strongly recommend Michael to other parents seeking academic help for their children. Without a doubt he made a letter grade difference in her final grade.
We contacted Michael to help our 11th grade daughter in Chemistry. At the beginning of the second semester, and with her Chemistry class on their 3rd teacher, we started to see that our daughter had holes in her knowledge. After failing 2 tests and with a grade of 51, we hired Michael.
He asked lots of questions on her learning styles and interests. He used this info and really was able to connect with her. From the very first session, he made sure that she understood the material they covered. He was encouraging and remembered when she had tests. He not only helped her with the Chemistry knowledge and filled the holes, he gave her the confidence that she could pass the class.
She rocked her final - with an 86%! and ended up with a B in the class. We are very happy and highly recommend Michael. Thanks so much.
PS. As Chemistry tutoring was going so well, we asked him to help her review for the Advanced Algebra final as well!
My daughter has had three lessons with Michael so far and all have been very beneficial. Michael is great at explaining the material and truly excellent at leading the kids to understand concepts and the process to get to a solution in every case. Michael is professional, friendly and punctual. We hope to engage him again in the foreseeable future.
Michael is awesome. He is very professional, fast, accurate, and knowledgeable. I have used him many times and will continue to do so. I will also have no problem recommending him.
Michael is very responsive and easy to work with. His conversational style of teaching is great for AP World History -- he keeps it interesting and memorable.
Our daughter was having trouble learning from her Math teacher. Their teaching/learning styles just weren't meshing well. With two weeks left in the semester she had an 82%. Her test average was only 71%. She had one chapter test and the final left. She needed B's on both or her grade would drop to a C.
We contacted Michael and he was quick to communicate and schedule with us. He asked me questions about her learning style, personality, strengths, and interests so he would have some ideas of what would help her learn.
After the first session I knew she was "getting" it. Michael explains things in a variety of ways until he sees that light-bulb moment. Then instead of moving on, he reinforces that idea until the student is confident with it. We only had time for one session before her chapter test. She got 102%! We had another session before the final. She got a 97%!
In just two sessions, Michael was able to sort out and fill in the gaps of the entire semester and restore our daughters confidence. The icing on the cake is that her grade went from 82% to 90%. She has never been more proud of an A. I'm so grateful we found Michael. I give him my highest recommendation.
Michael is a great tutor. He has passion for chemistry and was very helpful to me. He was on time, courteous, approachable, and very easy to get along with. I highly recommend him.
Michael is very knowledgeable in teaching AP World history. He is passionate, and cares about his student's progress and improvement. He has been a great help!
It was New Years Day, and he made time for me during a very busy week. I was eager to get tutoring started before the beginning of the spring semester. He takes his job seriously, which is what I need.
Michael is not only a kind person he was very helpful for my daughter in her struggle with Chemistry. He answered questions and helped prepare for her exam by working through the entire study guide and filling in the gaps in her learning. He was prompt, flexible with scheduling and made it easy for us to work with a tutor. As our first experience with Wyzant, Michael was outstanding. My daughter told me after the first session, "Mom, I finally had someone who could answer my questions!" The look on her face was priceless. We would highly recommend Michael as a tutor.
Michael has really been a huge help to my son already after just 3 sessions. I can see his confidence level grow more and more. I only wish I had not waited so long before contacting Michael. I do think in short order, with Michael's help we will be able to get out of this hole we dug.
Mike was fabulous. He knows history like no one else. He helped my son review/study for the AP World History exam. He was able to tie history together throughout the ages and talk about the relevance it has today. My son learned a lot and felt well prepared for the exam. Thanks Mike!
Michael has done a great job tutoring my son in algebra. He's very patient and does an excellent job of breaking down complicated processes and explaining things in simple, understandable terms. Not only does he help with academics, along the way he reinforces the importance of character traits, such as perseverance and diligence. I highly recommend him.
My daughter has gone from a 73 to a 96 average in the class due to Michael. He has taught her better study habits that have helped her improve her other grades and feel like she is accomplishing something when she studies. Michael's patience, clear, concise explanations and his expertise have been exactly what we needed for my daughter to dig herself out of her academic hole in math and science. Very impressive and professional tutor. Highly recommended.
Michael is an excellent tutor who really knows Chemistry and algebra. He uses real life examples to explain chemistry, and engages the student in learning. He also in one session helped our son who was failing algebra get a B on an algebra test and bring his grade up to passing.
My son went from a 63 to a 79 in the class in the 10 weeks he worked with Michael. He had failed 8 assignments prior to tutoring with Michael and only 1 after. A friend of his joined in for 8 weeks of the tutoring and he went from an 61 to an 81. The boys really felt like they were learning the material. Great tutor would highly recommend and will definitely use him again if the need arises.
It was a pleasure tutoring both boys, and I could really tell that they were actually enjoying the material. I am very pleased that they did well on the finals!
Michael is tutoring my Granddaughter and is doing a great job. We are very pleased with how he is preparing McKenzie to understand the material. She has been very receptive and we believe Michael's tutoring is going to help her get much better grades.
Michael did a world class job. He has vast experience with the ASVAB test and communicated the information well. I appreciate his help.
I needed a refresher course for the ASVAB, and Michael was just what I needed. He worked with me to make sure that I understood all of the problems and answered my questions about the ASVAB and the military. Great tutor!
Michael has done a great job keeping our son focused on his studies by keeping the discussion interesting. He taught him study techniques as well as other advice on how to study on his own. Michael was able to cover a wide range of subjects including math, chemistry, world history and Bible.
Michael was the perfect answer for a very frustrating situation we encountered mid-year. Our son, 15, was struggling in 10th grade math and when the second half of the year began (Jan. 2011) he was failing. He had little to no support at school and a teacher who wasn't able to explain the work or answer questions. His frustration grew out of control and as much as we tried to help as parents, we knew it was best to get outside help. Michael not only built him back up, but also helped him pull his grade up and finish the year with a B! He even jumped in and helped with Physical Science when there were tough tests to study for in that class as well.
We would highly recommend Michael and are glad that we found him - it made our son's year end on a high note!
Michael has been a great tutor. I was having trouble in college algebra and he helped me to understand the material and realize where I was making mistakes while doing homework assignments and on tests. He showed me that I had a overall understanding of the material but was making small errors because I lacked confidence when answering questions. He was friendly and helped me to gain confidence with the subject. He has worked well with me to schedule tutoring times that worked well with my schedule and I have always left the sessions feeling like I have a better understanding of the material we've covered. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a math tutor.
Michael was pleasant and relatable. His commitment to education is apparent. Our son, who does not like to study, took to Michael and was engaged throughout the lesson. Michael truly "got" and understood where our son was (in terms of math level) and began from there.
We are certain that this would be both beneficial and rewarding for our son.
The process of finding Michael was met with ease. The profiles available allowed us to choose the person we felt would be best suited for our needs. Our first impression was that he is perfect for our son. Michael did not disappoint. He was truly who he said he was in his profile.
The feedback via the website was appreciated and managed well.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took the ASVAB less than two years ago as a pre-requisite to joining the US Army Reserves. Studying for two weeks was all of the time that I had at my disposal before I scored the highest GT score for the Duluth Army Recruiting Station. With a score of 128, I currently have the 2nd highest GT score of anyone in my Reserve unit.
In junior and senior high school, I played basketball for my school. I was known for my high free-throw and three pointer percentage shots. Defense was also a strong point that was stressed by my coaches all throughout my years of playing, as well.
My summers were reinforced by summer basketball camp, running drills with other teammates, etc. Outside of school time, we constantly practiced and trained.
As an active member of Christian denomination of church for 20 years, I have attended many supplementary Biblical studies classes. In college, some of the courses which I used as elective were Biblical studies courses which I easily passed due to the intensive Biblical studies training in my church.
With a lifelong love of chess, I have participated in numerous chess tournaments in which I placed quite well.
While I admit that I probably could not beat Gary Kasparov or Bobby Fischer (or even Deep Blue), I can certainly provide the strategy that I have acquired through years of study and watching films of great chess matches.
As a parent of a 2nd grader, my wife and I have homeschooled our son for the past three years, and he is well-above his grade-level in every subject in standardized testing.
I also have tutored/mentored elementary age students in academics as part of a church youth program.
As a life-long lover of college football, I have studied the game in addition to watching and playing the sport. I played in high school and in college as defensive end, wide receiver, and safety.
Knowing the rules of the game and how they are evolving over time has been a hobby of mine for the past twenty years.
Having taken this course in college, I excelled in this subject in addition to having tutored this subject to numerous students since college. I have also substitute taught this subject in high school when I was a teacher.
