I have 27 years' experience in training personnel in tasks related to their jobs (I am a retired USAF officer), ensuring that they understood a particular process or function and were able to start work with little to no additional assistance.
I enjoy the teaching/training process, taking pleasure in seeing the students gain an understanding of the topic and becoming successful in it. Additionally, I always try to determine a person's learning style to understand the best way of helping them learn.
I completed three levels of algebra and five calculus classes for my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Over the years, I have used algebra in many day-to-day issues and have kept the concepts clear in my mind. I am now back in school pursuing another Bachelor's degree and just finished a chemistry class (summer 2016) that required significant use of algebra and received an "A" in the class.
I spent six months in a French immersion class in a Department of Defense school. Following that school, I was assigned to the US Embassy Tunis, Tunisia, and improved my French skills both with the local residents and in an official capacity with representatives from the Tunisian military. I can provide assistance in beginning French but not at the expert/fluent level.
I completed several English classes for my BS degree and wrote numerous papers for my Masters degree in International Relations. Additionally, throughout my 27-year career, I wrote, reviewed, and edited countless documents intended for high-ranking officials. When reviewing and editing, I made a habit of sitting with the young writer and explaining my editing marks, ensuring that they gained an understanding of proper English. This honed my skills in English.
I look forward to the opportunity of passing on the knowledge I have to eager students. I understand, through my own education experience, some of the difficulties students may face in grasping concepts. My expertise and experience in training will ensure that any students I tutor become better prepared for their courses. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
