I have been an educator for 34 years that has worked in both the public and private sectors. I started out as a special education teacher for grades K-5th. During that experience, I was responsible for the curriculum, writing and implementation of IEPS, working closely with both parents, teachers, students and administrators. I have worked with students whose disabilities ranged from mildly to severely learning disabled, mild to moderately mentally retarded and students who displayed autistic behaviors.
I have worked as a class within class teacher for the 4th grade. I worked closely with the 4th grade teachers to enable my students to participate in class discussions and to complete homework/special projects within a timely manner. During testing sessions my students went to my classroom in order for the tests to be read aloud. My goal for my students was to stay in class and be there for the teachers' presentation.
The school district that I was living in at the time went to a 4 day week. The local Lutheran minister decided that the children of the district needed a safe environment for that one day while the parent(s) worked. I was hired to be the educational teacher for the student ranging from grades K-5th. With the minister's assistance, I was kept abreast of the teachers' expectations through the weekly emails. I always began my afternoon sessions with a science experiment (A science curriculum developed by teachers from Southwest Missouri State University) and then the students were divided into their age groups(K-2, 3-5). My goal was to keep the learning fun through games and manipulatives and to enable the students to be successful in their school environment.
Each child has the capacity to learn and through my experience and working closely with both you and your child I will assist you in that endeavor.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked as a special education teacher for the grades K-5th. In order to assist my students I worked closely with the teachers in these grades as to their expectations and the curriculum of their specific grade levels.
