I have a Master's in Reading Education. I have been teaching first grade students to read for five years. My yearly data consistently shows growth from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. I have attended many conferences by top educators in the field of reading. Which has shown in my data that I am able to apply what I learn directly to the classroom. I have a passion for reading and I believe that it shows to the students that I work with. I also have had training in Reading Recovery, which is a systematic approach to teaching reading to beginning and struggling readers. Along with my classroom experience I have been tutoring struggling readers for four years. I have tutored students from other classrooms and school. I also have tutored students outside of school. The parents have been extremely pleased with the success their child has made during the time I worked with their child.
Phonics,

Phonics

As a first grade teacher phonics is a crucial part of teaching readers to read. With many professional development meetings I have gained the knowledge to teach phonics to readers. I have been taught using a method that teaches students that letters have different jobs in words. Sometimes the words work alone, together with another letter or in groups with multi-letters. Teaching and learning can be difficult, but with experience in the classroom and tutoring, with many different learners I feel that I can meet the needs of students who may be struggling with phonics.

Very Beneficial!

Ashley started tutoring my 6 year old daughter a few weeks back, and I have already seen much improvement! Ashley keeps my daughter's attention through the entire session, and is always encouraging. I appreciate the fact that she is patient, and brings multiple types of teaching tools to each session. My daughter has already shown improvement in word recognition, reading, and writing sentences. Just a few sessions with Ashley has shown us more progress than public school tutoring. I'm thankful I found Ashley, the education she is providing my daughter for a bright future, is worth so much to me. Thanks!

Great start!

We are very pleased with Ashley tutoring our granddaughter. She picked up right away on some thing our granddaughter needed. Ashley is on time, works well with our granddaughter and has showed us what we can do to help her too. Glad we found her.
