About Julie

I'm a creative educator with over 11 years experience working with students of all ages and ability levels. I come from a family of educators and find happiness in helping others connect with their curriculum.

I am certified K-12 in Special Education specializing in learning disabilities. I can create lessons that can motivate even the most unmotivated learner. I use a variety of ways to help student gain and retain information. I have taught at the elementary, middle school and high school level, in both special education classes with just students with learning disabilities, as well as co-teaching in the main stream classroom with a combination of all ability levels.

I received a Master of Arts in Special Education focusing on Learning Disabilities. I consider myself an expert at Learning Strategies. My goal is to create a fun and successful learning environment. To use the student's skills and own learning styles to help them learn in a way that is natural to them. In addition, my undergraduate degree is in the social sciences holding a Bachelor's of Arts in psychology and sociology.

My have experience working with high school students from 9-12 grades. I have a vast knowledge of contemporary and classical literature, as well as varied experience teaching and assessing writing skills. In addition, I have worked with students that struggle with reading and writing difficulties and found ways to help them overcome their struggles.

I believe that through the study of history we open our understanding of mankind. My father was a History teacher for over 40 years sharing his love and passion of it with me at an early age. I have taught both American History and World History for several years, as well as American Government/Civics and Current Global Events. My hobbies include historical and genealogical research.

ADD/ADHD

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Special Education specializing in learning disabilities from The University of Missouri at Kansas City. I have several graduate hours studying various disabilities including ADD/ADHD. In addition I have over 11 years teaching experience in special education working with students with ADD/ADHD. I believe that I am more than qualified to teach in this area.

American History

I have taught Social Studies at the secondary level for over eleven years either as a co-teacher or as a special education social studies teacher. During that time, I have taught American History. I was qualified to teach American History by my state under the Highly Qualified certification.

Autism

I have been a special education teacher for over eleven years. During this time, I have taught students with varying abilities Autism Spectrum. In addition, I have a MA in special education.

Career Development

As a secondary special education teacher, I have worked with students preparing their IEP transition plan from high school to post-secondary living. Through this process, I have guided students to various resources as part of their transition plan from class coursework track in school, to college or other post secondary training. I have administered different formal and informal assessments to help students decide on career choices best suiting their needs and wants. I have taught career readiness classes as a special education teacher. I addition, I completed the required graduate class work in transition and post secondary living as part of my Masters Degree in Special Education.
