Dear Student and Parents, .
After teaching Language Arts and History 5th-8th grades for years, as well as 5th grade math, then teaching my own grandchildren Spanish and Chinese, I continue to tutor adults in English for Rockwood School District. I love teaching. I believe our country cannot remain independent if our citizens cannot read, write and analyze history. For some, history is difficult. But to me, it is a story. I believe in living history, by pretending (acting) the scene or event out, putting ourselves there at the time, traveling together and experiencing being at the Boston Massacre or at Selma, Alabama. By the way, I marched there with Dr. Martin Luther King in 1965.
As you can see, memorizing is not the most efficient way to learn for everyone. We need to relate to the subject. I'd love to teach you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I started with 4 different language programs so I could hear the tonal language from many different voices.
I also watch and learn from many different videos and programs offered over the internet.
But the best opportunity I have is being in class with ladies from China who are in my ESL class to improve their English, as I teach ESL for Rockwood School District in the morning.
I am able to teach beginning Chinese. I find it very exciting, interesting, and lots of fun.
I have been tutoring ESL for the past two years. I have taught all stages of English learners, from new to the language & country to adults who are ready to apply for jobs or for citizenship.
I have enjoyed it very much, after retiring from teaching English in our local middle and high schools. These adult learners want to learn English and care about their futures and their families.
I walked the junior golfers 10+ years at Forest Hills, teaching them the rules, the game and etiquette. I have since taught many tennis players to play golf as they aged. In the summer of 2011, I taught golf skills at Forest Hills to junior golfers.
As a primary school teacher I am well qualified to teach phonics. I am MO State Certified to teach Kindergarten. I have over 30 years of teaching reading.
I also have taught adults to read English for the last three years.
I taught middle school and high school Language Arts and English. I taught reading as a source of collecting information but also as tool for learning the difference between inferences, hints, facts from fiction. They learned that the more you read, the more you love reading because you have new knowledge that you want to build on. You can go anywhere you want to in a book. It opens up the whole world to you. No one can take that away from you. It makes your life richer and happier.
My son-in-law is from Peru, and lives with my husband and myself. He could clue me in with the intimate stuff.
I have been a classroom teacher in Spanish. Of course, this was somewhat guarded conversation.
In the past three years, I have been teaching English as a second language for Collier School District in Florida, as well as Rockwood School District here in Chesterfield, MO.
I have my masters in The Teaching/Learning Process from Washington University. The whole point of approaching study skills is to identify the students learning strengths and weaknesses and apply that knowledge to the subjects at hand that are giving our student such a challenge.
I would be happy to succeed with your student on that journey.
I taught tennis as a P.E. teacher and personally won the Doubles Championship at Forest Hills Country Club back on my younger days. I feel tennis is a wonderful sport as well as family game.
I always enjoyed playing with my daughters and sister.
After graduating with a History major, I traveled to Europe at least five times, to Tunisia and Egypt, the South Pacific Friendly Islands, and I taught in Central America.
My husband and I love to travel and study History. We have been to many of the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and Puerto Rico. Our latest interest has been Asia. My daughter and spouse adopted a boy from China in 2004. I have been seriously studying Chinese for six years. We fascinated by the culture and history of the area.
