It was cold. November 2000 and I was standing in the middle of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus frightened to make a wrong decision. For that next semester, I would have to decide whether I wanted to go the teaching or nursing route, two completely different pathways. As always, I phoned my mom--she gave me insight I will take with me forever. She easily stated, "Jessica, when you are a nurse, you are teaching all the time." A surreal moment occurred, time stopped, despite the snow flakes falling on my head. She was so right and what I needed to hear at that very moment in my life. I love nursing and I love to educate and tutoring has provided me with the opportunity to do those two things I enjoy doing. I absolutely love tutoring-I enjoy the journey I get to go with others as they are working at getting into nursing school, trying to survive nursing school, and prepare for the NCLEX. My goal is to provide encouragement, self-empowerment, confidence and many 'surreal moments' for others during their journey as they fulfill their dreams.
A little more about me: I understand the frustration and difficulty that may come along with certain classes, test preparation, study skills, etc. I've been there and learned ways to succeed! I love to educate-all ages, especially in the areas of health, anatomy, physiology and of course, nursing and NCLEX preparation. I've been a nurse for eight years, with most of those years being at the U of M Hospital, Fairview. I floated throughout, working in many departments with critical care being my favorite, where I spent my last two years in the hospital setting in.
I spent a year educating health promotion and prevention along with overall wellness, in the community as a case manager. I am now back in the CICU setting caring for the our most vulnerable community members while I tutor and educate new graduate nurses and those in nursing school. I am positive, personable, and caring and try to make learning easier and more interesting for others. I look forward to meeting and/or talking with you. Best of luck! It was cold. I struggled with passing the nclex for a long time. I took countless study courses with Kaplan and hurst review, but still couldn't pass the nclex. I was loss until I found Jessica. She was very patient with me and knew exactly what needed to be done. She developed a day to day study plan that I followed and found very helpful. On my next attempt I pass the nclex. I am now an RN and I can certainly say that Jessica was the one that got me there. Thanks Jessica!
Jessica was a great tutor who helped me prepare for my NCLEX-RN exam. She was patient and provided positive input and resources that helped me succeed. On our first meeting we reviewed my study habits and needs in order to formulate an individualized study plan. Each successive meeting included a review of my current studies, official exam practice questions, and discussion of material that I felt the need to discuss/clarify. The resources Jessica provided consisted of notes and exam practice questions that worked to my benefit. We met a handful of times in a convenient location. The majority of communication was completed via email and was easy to set appointments. I was skeptical the first time I looked at the WyzAnt website but was extremely satisfied with Jessica's performance and my decision to contact her for tutor services.
I struggled with passing my NCLEX, and with Jessica's help, awesome study plan and helpful guidance, tips and tricks, I was able to pass and become an RN! I can't recommend Jessica enough... she is truly an awesome tutor! If you're looking for help with your NCLEX, look no further! She's patient, an excellent tutor, and willing to work with you as much or as little as you need! She helped me pass, and she can help you too! Thanks Jessica!
Thanks Jessica for the Great evening. My daughter is coming out of her lessons really pumped up about learning and has a much more positive attitude. You have a great way of making her feel empowered and that she can, with your help, figure this studying, organizing and writing thing out.
I hope she uses what she is learning. Looking forward to our next lesson.
Jessica we are pleasantly surprised and impressed with all the research and work you put in prior to my daughter's sessions . I have a good feeling about her Sophomore year I think the work you two are doing will help her get off to a good start. Even though history is not her favorite at lest she may feel a little ahead at the beginning.
Thanks for another great session!
Jessica is a wonderful tutor. She was patient, informative, and extremely helpful to me. She was always organized and punctual, and let the lessons run as I wished. With her help, I passed my NCLEX and can now move forward with my nursing career.
You are excellent. Patient, kind, and so knowledgeable about anatomy and nursing.
My studying is already improving, more organized. I'm looking forward to seeing you again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The stigma of ADD/ADHD is truly bothersome to me as it's so prevalent in my family and others that I know, both youth and adult. ADD/ADHD is very real in both genders and has different forms, meaning the learning styles vary among individuals. I aspire to learn what the best method of learning is for those that I tutor, whether or not ADD/ADHD is present or not. I believe those with ADD/ADHD are blessed with creative minds and ideas and energetic personalities.
I also know the struggles of difficulty concentrating, focusing, being easily distracted, and many times comes the battle with organization of school work, especially as students get older. This can then lead to a feelings of failure and 'not being good enough', which is heartbreaking! Those with ADD/ADHD are just as intelligent as those without and usually need to learn a system that works for them for organization, etc. They also need encouragement and support along the way-I truly enjoy providing that support and encouragement and seeing others flourish and smile when something 'clicks' and they are proud of themselves!
A doctor that I work with once told me, 'you know, we all have a little ADD in us'--so true with all the technology, expectations, etc of our current lives:). I hope to be a source of hope and support for you and your family!
I have taken the updated April 2010 NCLEX-RN Detailed Test Plan course for the Nurse Educator, which is approved by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the very board that holds rights to the NCLEX-RN test title. I've learned the test plan structure, organization of material and how it's distributed. I've been fortunate to learn the true keys and reasoning about the exam versus what may have been heard via hearsay from others who took the exam. I have been given examples of each type of question and/or format to expect on the exam that I am able to share with NCLEX-RN prospects. In the course, I have also been given keys as to how to write questions related to how NCLEX questions are written to best suit the needs of an individual student. If you are preparing to take the NCLEX and have considered taking a week or day-long review course but are intimidated by the length of the day or if they will review what YOU need to review, individual tutoring is a great alternative! I look forward to hearing from you!
