About Rosalinda

It is my lifelong passion to help children be able to succeed. I know that education can be a challenge for many students and learning styles can very greatly from one individual to the next. It is my belief that tailoring each lesson and assignment to the individual while providing challenges and encouragement can greatly help the student achieve greatness as well as expand there minds to even greater aspirations. I have always done well in every subject in school and have spent the past 15 years working in areas of education from pre-school to adult education and have worked with students who are exceptionally talented to students who struggle in school and even ones with learning disabilities and barriers. I am comfortable working with students from all backgrounds.

As a trilingual interpreter I have over 15 years of working with English; Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL). Growing up speaking Spanish in the home as well as having several Deaf friends as a child has given me native like fluency in all three languages. In addition I have a degree in ASL linguistics (the study of language which includes grammar; syntax; pragmatics; semantics) and interpreting. I have also extensively studied English and Spanish linguistics both spoken and written. I have over 10 years' experience teaching in a variety of settings from individual work, community adult classes as well as high school language classes. By incorporating a combination of hands on activities, conversations, music and written, it is my belief that anyone can learn a second, third or even fourth language.

I specialize in language acquisition both spoken and written. Helping students learn to write papers such as reports, scientific research papers and creative writing not only helps them succeed in school but gives the student a life long skill as well as a medium of self expression. I also enjoy the way that being able to read well opens the mind and helps teach critical thinking, creative thinking and problem solving as well as to give the student a broader perspective on the world.

Due to my knowledge of Deaf and Hard of Hearing culture, ASL; Cued Speech; Oral transliteration and captioning, I am able to work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a variety of subjects providing direct instructions using the communication mode preferred by the student with out requiring the use of an interpreter. I am also aware of the challenges that Deaf and Hard of Hearing students have learning to read and write as well as the various method of instruction that have been proven to increase the fluency level of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

For the sake of the world and our future, we must take our children’s hands and give them the knowledge so that the future may always be bright for knowledge is great power and it is our responsibility to share it, to teach it and to help the seeds grow. For giving a child knowledge can lead to great change making a better and brighter future for all. Let me help you or your student achieve greatness and expand their language knowledge by using an individualized approach that is both fun and challenging.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hard Of Hearing

Due to my knowledge of Deaf and Hard of Hearing culture, ASL; Cued Speech; Oral transliteration and captioning, I am able to work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing providing direct instructions using the communication mode preferred by the student with out requiring the use of an interpreter. I am also aware of the challenges that Deaf and Hard of Hearing students have learning to read and write as well as the various method of instruction that have been proven to increase the fluency level of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. I have also taken several Deaf culture classes as a part of my continuing education.

Sign Language

I graduated from the interpreting training program from Saint Paul College where I also studied the linguistics of ASL. I have been a working ASL interpreter for over fifteen years in a variety of settings including k-12 and post secondary work. I have NAD 3 certification in ASL interpreting. I have presented both at the Wisconsin Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf as well as Bemidji state university on the variations of ASL among different cultures. I have also tutored ASL at Rivers Edge Academy as well as for ISD 917.
