About Sam

The ever-changing world of digital media fascinates me, and I find great pleasure in both studying it and applying the skills I've accumulated in order to produce content for my community and the world at large. I've studied videography and content production for a number of years, and currently manage a small production entity at my University's work study program. I've worked with several companies and groups of people to produce, edit, and promote content. Throughout my career, I've learned not only the power of harnessing digital marketing, but the joy in teaching and advising others how to use their own skills in digital media to create content that's substantial and ultimately impressive on a resume.

I manage 10 different employees in my current position, with skills in digital media ranging from graphic design to video editing, to digital marketing on social media. Although many may find this a daunting task, I think it's a blast! I get to use my knowledge of what people enjoy watching, what works and doesn't work in the marketing world, and production to guide a number of exceptional students on a path towards success. It's both a pleasure and a privilege of mine to help dedicated and talented people use their skills to do everything from creating web content, to hosting events, and in the long run build an impressive portfolio for everyone on the team.

Breadth of study in the digital world is also very important, and I've dabbled in many areas of the digital media world, from film to TV to podcasts. Selecting an area of focus can often be a difficult process, but with my experience in the same predicament I can confidently provide you with sound advice based on real experience.

I've currently held two internships, one for Hiawatha Broadband Communications (HBC), and one for the Minnesota Children's Museum. For HBC, I ran camera during live-broadcasted community events including sports games, parades, concerts, pageants, and graduation ceremonies. Here I learned the importance of precision behind the camera, communication with directors and producers on the field, and how to effectively and appropriately act in a live setting in the field. I also produced directed and edited several "community packs" that focused on events happening in areas in and around the HBC umbrella. This furthered my skills in independent production work (I attended/traveled to each event, and edited each piece completely by myself), and provided me with further insight as to what gets watched and noticed on the ever-elusive radar of social media platforms.

I currently hold a senior multi-media documentation intern position at the Minnesota Children's Museum. Here I produce direct and edit both internal and external pieces for both R&D and marketing purposes. The internal content I create generally involve long shots of museum programs to determine their effectiveness. These are sometimes handed off to interns at the University of Minnesota for research purposes. The External content I create has come in multiple forms. I produce what are called "Play Forecasts" in which a Museum employee highlights a certain area of the museum visitors tend to flock to in both 45 and 15 second segments (for digital marketing purposes). I also create videos for special events and programs that are grant-funded such as the future vet program video I did for Canfield Pet Hospital, and a "Meet the Artist" video vignette I created in collaboration with the Minnesota State Arts Board. Again, I cut two versions of these segments--one around 2 and a half minutes and one at about 15-30 seconds.

On top of my internship experience, I've produced several videos for my work study job at Hamline's TV Studio: Piper Vision. In my two years of work at Piper Vision, I've gained bountiful experience in pre production, production, post production (Adobe Premiere/Final Cut/ Adobe Flash/ Adobe PhotoShop), digital marketing, event management, and in my second year, general teaching and managerial skills. This is the training ground in which I've been honing and applying the skills I've accumulated to become a professional videographer. I love my job, and learn new things everyday both as a producer of web content, and a manager.

If you are at all interested in expanding your skills in digital media, whether it be in graphic design or video editing, I have been training for over 3 years to help you. I am confident in my abilities to help you learn basic skills, and make creative and professional decisions on your path to success. Keep in mind, I'm happy to help with any range of projects, whether it be a high-stakes professional endeavor, or just a fun video you want to make with your friends. I've been in just about every situation.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
