The Evergreen State College (Chemistry)
University of Minnesota (Graduate Coursework)
Greetings! My name is Dory, and I have been a tutor for more than five years now. Most of my experience has been with an on-campus, drop in tutoring center, but I have also worked in classes, as a designated class tutor, and as a private tutor. My favorite subject is chemistry (I majored in chemistry at Evergreen), but I also enjoy mathematics up to and including calculus, and biology. I have worked with students from all walks of life, and am capable of adapting my style to fit the needs of most any tutee. My best quality as a tutor is my great enthusiasm for knowledge and my thorough understanding of the content.
Besides tutoring, I have worked as an intern ranger in Colorado and Arizona, and as an actual ranger in Minnesota. I am currently finishing up a temporary summer ranger position at Cross Lake Recreation Area. Talking with visitors about the park and their camping experiences has been an enlightening and enjoyable experience, but I am excited to go back to my STEM roots this fall.
Science is one of the greatest tools we have for understanding the world around us. It is such an honor to help students develop and expand their analytic abilities. Please understand that I am here for your benefit: I will do my best to make our time together productive, and hope to be one of many resources you utilize to be successful. I am very understanding of canceled sessions, and am both available and flexible in terms of scheduling requests. May we work together soon! Greetings! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I tutored standard chemistry students in high school and took the IB Higher Level chemistry course. I spent three years of my undergraduate tutoring general chemistry students at an on campus tutoring center, worked as a designated tutor for several general chemistry courses, and individually tutored several students throughout their general chemistry careers.
I took Organic Chemistry I, II, and III in an Upper Division program called Chemistry of Living Systems. I then tutored the subject for two years in an on-campus tutoring center. I have also individually tutored several students studying organic chemistry.
