About Neil

I have been and instructor in chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, nutrition, and microbiology at various colleges and universities in the Twin Cities area. I enjoy teaching chemistry and science in general. Since I teach chemistry I have also taught the math required to understand and solve many types of chemical problems.

I enjoy seeing students increase their understanding of a sometimes challenging concept or topic. I enjoy the step wise process of building knowledge in a complex area like chemistry or biochemistry. It is good to give a student a challenging problem and then see them work at figuring out the solution.

I approach algebra 1 as a logical process. There are ways to solve problems that make it easier to understand what is going on. Usually math appears confusing or baffling to students who have some form of mathematical anxiety. I work to take the anxiety out and show them it is not a difficult or complex as it initially appears.

Over 15 years of experience teaching science at the college level in the Twin Cities area. I enjoy all chemistry and physical science.

My objective for any student is to help them figure out how to understand the topic at hand better without making it any more complex than it needs to be.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I have taught chemistry at several Community colleges in the Twin Cities area over the past 10+ years. I have taught introductory, general, organic and biochemistry.

Physical Science

I am qualified to teach math (algebra) and the natural sciences of chemistry. I am working to qualify to teach biochemistry. I am tentatively qualified to teach nutrition. I enjoy the sciences overall. (I have a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, which requires knowledge in the physical sciences in general and to be good in math) I have taught at local community colleges for over 12 years.
