Crown College (ESL Education)
My love of teaching began at an early age -- my dad has been a teacher for over 20 years and I quickly decided I would follow in his footsteps. As a summa cum laude graduate, I understand the dedication and time it takes to work toward earning that A+ and growing academically. As a result of much time spent outside of the United States, I'm culturally sensitive and very understanding.
My passion for culture took me halfway around the world where I lived and worked in China for over two years at an international school. I returned back to Minnesota in June and am currently employed as a teacher at a charter school in the Minneapolis metro area. I have several years of experience working with a wide variety of levels of ESL students and I love seeing kids improve not only in their speaking and listening, but in their reading and writing as well. I understand that English is a crucial part of success in school for ESL learners.
In addition to teaching ESL, I also worked part time as a freelance editor for a company online, so I have a background in proofreading and editing written work. If you're looking for a proofreader or editor for your essays and papers, I'm your girl!
I specialize in ESL tutoring in addition to grammar, reading, and writing tutoring. I seek to challenge students, but not to the point where they feel discouraged or frustrated. I always want the student to have a smile on their face once the tutoring session is finished and I love it when the students and parents are happy with my work! I'm more than happy to help with any kind of homework students might have. While I won't give them the answers (EVER!), I will help guide and direct them to the answers they are looking for, while helping reteach concepts they may not have understood in the first place at school.
I try to be flexible with my time, but as a result of my school hours, most tutoring hours I have are after school between 4-8 PM on weekdays. I may be able to work weekends, but I try to keep them reserved for only significant projects and papers. I am most comfortable meeting students at coffee shops or at a local library, but I am willing to go to another location if necessary.
I look forward to hearing from you and discussing how I can help improve your (or your child's) English or your writing or reading comprehension in the very best way I can! I have taught internationally for the last two years before settling in the Twin Cities metro area. I have taught a wide range of students -- from elementary to middle and high school students. I am a voracious reader and love helping kids see the benefits of reading not only for school but in their spare time as well. I am licensed in the state of Minnesota as an educator and love to spend time working with kids and seeing them improve!
