Hello! My name is Ellen and I am a teacher, a proofreader/reviewer, an APA expert, and a lover of learning. I developed a passion for education at a young age, which prompted me to work for and earn a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, and a Master of Arts in English Studies. Hello! My name is Ellen and I am a teacher, a proofreader/reviewer, an APA expert, and a lover of learning. I developed a passion for education at a young age, which prompted me to work for and earn a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, and a Master of Arts in English Studies. Additionally, I am currently in a doctoral program and I intend to write my dissertation about writing pedagogy. I have more than a decade of teaching and tutoring experience, and my specialties are proofreading or reviewing student writing, and teaching literature, writing skills, and APA 7th Edition format. I have worked with high school and college students, and I currently work with doctoral students in a university writing center.

My teaching philosophy evolves as my experiences and my students evolve, but I continue to stand by the idea that writing skills are essential to one's success in many facets of life. I strive to prepare my students to write for school assignments, but also to write within the workplace. My goal is for my students to succeed, not only in the educational environment, but also in their jobs or extracurricular activities, all of which likely involve the utilization of writing skills.

In order to help my students progress, I do my best to motivate and challenge them by using activities that address the issues with which they struggle. I also create lesson plans for each tutoring session based on the student's individual needs. For my students who need my help proofreading or reviewing their written work, I address problematic as well as positive patterns throughout their papers that they can work to improve with me as their tutor, or on their own. My hope is to help my students address and remedy their writing challenges, but also to help them improve the writing skills they already possess.
