I am a consultant for the industry and a dedicated personal tutor of earth sciences, mainly geology. I believe that tutoring is the best way to keep a seasoned professional's mind fresh. I also believe that the best teacher for any student is one who is professionally active in the field. After obtaining my Ph.D. in geology and relocating from Europe, I can say that there is hardly any teaching challenge that would surprise me. Having taught subjects as exotic as "Geography of Mountain Ranges - the Alps" or "World's Lagerstatten" in the U.S., I am capable of adapting to any situation. My professional experience in the U.S. includes two years in Bloomington, IN (the main campus of Indiana University), and three years in Boulder, CO (the main campus of the University of Colorado). I love to teach Physical Geology and Earth History.
In the case of full-semester tutoring sessions, I always start with an evaluation of the student's knowledge to determine what we can achieve. As an active practitioner, I am highly results-oriented.
I am also highly flexible with tutoring on a short-term basis and occasional meetings.
If necessary I can provide a great deal of supplementary materials (i.e. photographs, graphs, etc.) for homework purposes (I am in possession of written consent to use proprietary materials in teaching from three non-profit organizations and two private enterprises).
My basic rates are: $50 per hour for individuals, and $80 per hour for a group of two or three.
Two-hour sessions are $80 per hour for individuals, and $120 per hour for a group of two or three.
These prices are estimates only - I make an agreement with every student on an individual basis!
Long travel, short notice, and/or a substantial amount of my supplementary materials will determine the final price.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to required coursework during my studies (including physical and regional geography, as well as geological and physical oceanography), I have completed specialistic workshop/courses, including GIS.
I hold an M.S. in geology (prospecting geology) and a Ph.D. in geology (in the field of sedimentology, petrography and diagenesis of shale formations).
