I am 28 years old and working in my second job as a Process Development Engineer. I have always enjoyed learning about math and science, along with how those subjects relate to the human body. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Physics from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. I would like to share some of my specialties with students who are interested in excelling in similar topics. For the last two years, I have volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Twin Cities, and found it very rewarding to work with children. I have an excellent relationship with my 20-year-old brother, who I have helped with classes when time has allowed us to be together. I am looking to continue this in a setting which is closer to where I currently live. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

After meeting Jake I was impressed. He jumped right in and appears to know how to help my son right away.
Jacob assisted our daughter with Physics class and ACT prep. She recently scored A- on her last Physics exam after a few lessons with Jacob!
Jake is both very professional in his dealings with parents, and also very personable and approachable with our son, who is 14. We have already seen quick progress in our son's math abilities in both his understanding of the material and also his grades. Jake is patient, and able to meet a student where they are at. He is organized in his approach to the tutoring and makes sure that the student not only gets correct answers on work, but understands the process to arrive at an answer. He works to assist true learning, and makes sure to circle back over problems that were taught to work them another way so a student can demonstrate mastery and knowledge. He is able to cover a great deal of information in his tutoring sessions.
Our son enjoys his tutoring sessions and looks forward to seeing Jake. We appreciate that Jake makes the most of the time and money spent on tutoring. He is prompt, gets right to work, is friendly and well-spoken. A great combination of a smart mathematician and a good teacher. We are grateful for his help!
From minute 1 of her 1st session with Jacob, our daughter was at ease. He was respectful and approachable and got right to work. He was quick to tailor his examples of physics to her interests, especially sports. We, the parents, appreciate Jacob's immediate feedback of the sessions and his sensitivity to to her feelings about science and math struggles. We see her more confident in her abilities. High praise for Jacob's coaching of our student as well as his deep knowledge of the material. We feel it is money well spent. We see our daughter back on track.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received a score of 35 on my ACT Math portion in high school. I have a very good understanding of the time management skills which are a big part of succeeding on the test, and are often overlooked. I also have a good understanding of the material, and experience in tutoring this subject.
I have tutored two students through their algebra 1 class, and both saw improvement. Showing a student how a problem that is asked in a textbook can be applied to a real life situation always helps grab their attention, and they are likely to retain the information better when this can be done.
I have been in athletics since I was in kindergarten, including wrestling and football. Through high school I was on a strict weightlifting program in the offseason. I have taken classes in sports fitness, and weightlifting. I am proficient with multiple lifts, including specific lifts for each major muscle group.
I workout 3 to 4 days a week, including weightlifting, cardio, and total body health. I focus on eating a healthy balance of food, and eating certain food groups in moderation. I have learned through numerous gym and fitness classes tips on staying healthy, and being active.
I was a 3 year letter winner for River Falls High School varsity football. I played the game from 6th grade to 12 grade, and was a referee for flag football all throughout high school. I am more in touch with the defensive side of the ball, as I lead our conference in tackles my senior year. I watch football regularly, and understand the concepts that make teams successful
This is one of my favorite math subjects. I use my knowledge of geometry when doing construction projects with my dad, and am effective at using real life problems to help kids understand the subject. I find that when students can relate to a problem, they are much more likely to actually learn the material.
I excelled in high school physics and decided to pursue the subject in college. I received a bachelors of science in Physics form the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. I am familiar with the subject material, and understand it well.
