About Rebecca

I recently completed my coursework for a Master's in Library and Information Science through the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and I work at a midsize law firm in Minneapolis. I graduated summa cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College with a BA in English and minor in Spanish.

I have experience private tutoring in writing, test prep, and Spanish through WyzAnt, and I have experience peer tutoring in Spanish, writing, and math in both college and high school. I enjoy working with students to develop topics, organize papers, and edit academic, creative, and professional writing. In college, I was paired as a tutor with fellow classmates by my Formal Logic professor, and I worked as a Spanish tutor in the modern languages department. In addition, I have gained experience working with friends and classmates to improve their writing ability and reviewed scholarship and graduate school applications.

I believe communication is essential to the tutoring process. I am always looking for participation and feedback from my tutees to ensure they are actively involved in learning the material and realizing how much they really know and are able to contribute to their own education.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I attended a four-year Catholic high school, where I completed and received A grades in five semester-long theology courses. The courses focused on Biblical studies and theories of religion, including Introduction to Christian Religion, Philosophy of Religion, Old Testament, and New Testament, and Knowledge and Truth. I have also attended a four-year Lutheran college, where I completed and received an A grade in a semester-long course, Biblical Tradition.

Chinese

I took 2 years of Chinese in high school and a 3rd year as an honor student. I also received school recognition as an outstanding student in my course as both a high school junior and senior.

Classics

At Gustavus Adolphus College, I took a history class focused on the analysis of primary historical texts from ancient Greece and Rome, and I have taken 2 college philosophy classes focusing on Greek thought as well. I have familiarity with the works of Herodotus, Virgil, Sophocles, Thucydides, Livy, Seneca, Plato, and Aristotle.

Fitness

I have run competitively for 7 years on 2 different high school varsity teams and at Gustavus Adolphus College. I have lettered 11 times and was the female Cross Country MVP for 4 years at Saint John's Preparatory School. I also have a background in general lifestyle health from classes in both high school and college and from a personal interest in living healthfully and naturally. I also have experience biking, swimming, and lifting weights for general physical fitness.

General Music

I have 5 years of school band experience playing the trumpet and 2 years of community band experience. I have also been playing piano since the 2nd grade, and I can both read music and explain basic music theory.

Logic

I completed a 200 level formal logic course at Gustavus Adolphus College and received an A in the course.

Microsoft Publisher

I have worked with Microsoft Publisher for newspaper layout purposes for the past 3 years and as layout editor for my high school newspaper, I spent many hours using the program.

I attended a Catholic, Benedictine high school where I took 5 theology courses in which I received As in all of them, and at Gustavus Adolphus College, I took a course last semester titled Understanding the Bible.

Social Studies

In high school, I took 6 history/social studies classes and received As in each course. I am currently taking my second history/social studies course at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Track & Field

I have participated in Track & Field under the Minnesota State High School League for 6 years racing distances the 400m, 800m, 1 mile, and 2 mile, and I have participated in Indoor Track & Field at Gustavus Adolphus College focusing on the 1 mile, 3k, and 5k. I am currently participating in Outdoor Track and plan to focus on the 5k and 10k.

Trumpet

I began taking trumpet lessons at the age of 11 and participated in middle school and high school band until the age of 16. I also played with a community band from the age of 16 to 17 and played the principal part in the Sauk River Players Pit Band two different summers.
