I have not done much tutoring, especially for money, but I have a vast knowledge on several subjects including history, computers and so forth. I have an interest in passing along my knowledge to students and others who may need some help in whatever area they are having difficulty in.
For parents and students, I have a strong sense of honor and integrity, so there would be no need for worry about any untoward behavior. My interest is in imparting knowledge on subjects which I know in order to assist a student to gain knowledge and perhaps some wisdom that they can carry forward, hopefully into the future! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied art history while I was in college although I didn't major in it. My interest in art history generally ranges from impressionism of the late 19th century until today, ranging from Cezanne to Renoir to Van Gogh to Picasso and Matisse to Jackson Pollock to Andy Warhol to today's so-called "Street Art."
I have visited several museums, including the Walker Art Museum and Minneapolis Institute of Art in Minneapolis and the Landmark Center in St. Paul.
But I have to admit that I am mostly self-taught in art history but it has been quite immense.
I understand the historical, social, political, and economic ramifications of how art has interacted with various nations and cultures and how one can play off the other, and can sometimes even affect each other, especially when it comes to how society and nationhood has affected art itself.
I have over 20 years of photographic experience. I have worked in almost every photographic format from Instamatic 126 film to 35mm to 8 x 10 cameras. This also includes digital photographic experience, mostly in so-called point and shoots. I worked in darkrooms and have done some teaching in basic photographic skills such as camera handling, lenses, film, composition, lighting and so forth.
I have taken coursework in college and elsewhere but also have been self-taught.
My love of photography and its many numerous applications is just as strong now as it was when I first started doing it. I think enthusiasm would be a very vital tool in tutoring anyone on any subject, let alone photography with so many choices and decisions about every aspect of it, seemingly.
