St John's University
I am a certified Social Science teacher with an emphasis in history. I completed my degree through St. John's University in Collegeville, MN. My teaching experience includes student teaching 8th grade General Social Studies at Valley View Middle in Edina and teaching 10th grade U.S. History at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School. After student teaching I was hired on as a long term sub to teach 9th grade World Geography and 11th grade World History at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School. I spent the 2010-2011 school year teaching 8th grade U.S. History and 9th grade Human Geography at Metcalf Junior High in Burnsville. Letters of Recommendation are available from all three of the previously mentioned schools upon request. In all three settings I gained significant experience in working with special education students (learning, physical, and organizational disabilities).
Outside of the classroom I have spent the past three summers coaching youth soccer in the Burnsville summer program and at Metcalf Junior High. While at Metcalf I also started the Comedy Club. In this club I taught students how to write and perform stand up comedy that is both entertaining and clean. I love working with kids and believe in shaping both mind and character. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took a multimedia class which focused on a number of specific tasks within Photoshop. Since taking the class I have used Photoshop extensively in creating stand up comedy publicity material. I know how to use all features in the side bar including burn, sharpen, clone, and lasso. I am also familiar with many of the visual filters and am fully capable of adjusting the master settings of the document.
I am a coach for a middle school basketball team. We focus on perfecting technical skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting before discussing the tactical side of the game. I tell my players to focus on process, not product. Players may make 5 shots in a row, but if they are inconsistent in their form those results cannot be guaranteed. I force players to experience some level of discomfort as they learn the proper techniques. This creates more consistent result over time.
I have taken multiple computer programming courses which have included a very limited introduction to C++. I am familiar with Visual Basic as well as all the basic functions of computers (control panel, spreadsheets, database, presentations, processing, outlook etc).
I was a two year member of the national recognized Eastview Speech team. I have been performing theater on stage for 10 years and have been performing as a stand up comic for 4 years. I have also spent the past 2 years as a secondary teacher.
I played soccer competitively for 12 years. Most of my career was as a goalie though I spent much of my early playing days in the field. In college I continued with rec league soccer which I still play to this day. For the past three seasons I have coached with the Burnsville Fire Soccer Club. In the fall of 2010 I served as the coach of the junior high soccer team. I have also been an evaluator at summer and varsity level tryouts.
As a teacher I often encourage students to focus on the process not the product. I make students audit their study habits and create lessons that force students to study better. Examples include:
-Looking for Test Questions
-Flash Card Creation
-Sample Test Making
I have been performing in straight plays, one acts, opera workshops, and musicals for 10 years. I have worked as both a lead and a supporting actor. I have also spent the last 4 years as stand up comic. In the spring of 2011 I started a junior high comedy club which taught students to write entertaining and appropriate material.
My experience with video production is mainly in Windows Movie Maker and Premiere. I have used both programs extensively in putting together comedy promos as well as helping students to use them for school projects. I am able to capture and edit sound. I have worked with capturing, importing, and editing video as well as picture files. I can add title screens and menus as well as export the files to many different formats depending on the mode of playback
