Hello bright humans!
My name is Andrew.
I am a licensed 9 -12 chemistry teacher in Minnesota and was most recently an IB Chemistry teacher. I also have experience tutoring college students in General Chemistry (1 and 2), and Analytical Chemistry. Overall, I have done teaching and tutoring work with 9th graders through college juniors. I also have extensive experience working with young people of all ages through after school programs and summer camps.
I lean heavily on my relational approach to teaching and tutoring, my strong belief in people's ability to notice patterns, and my sincere conviction that I must adjust to how each individual learns. In math I focus on process-thinking. I get you noticing as much as you can on your own and then we build those noticings into connections and concept-understanding. In chemistry I focus on science-thinking practices like noticing patterns, analyzing data, and developing models to represent concepts. I make sure I understand what the edges of your understanding are so we can build from there. I help you develop your own analogies and reference tools that you can use when working on your own. I make sure that you can succeed in concepts on your own before moving on, so that you aren't left feeling disoriented.
I am excited to meet you, to notice your brilliance, and to help you achieve your goals!
